Position Summary

The Urgent Clinic Triage Technician is responsible for working collaboratively with multiple team members, including Central Schedulers, Front Desk Representatives, Clinical teams, and Patient Care Coordinators. They are responsible for building and maintaining strong working relationships with all departments.

The Urgent Clinic Triage technician works collaboratively with these departments to provide the highest quality of triage to our patients. They are very empathetic to the patients during the highly emotional time of experiencing pain, loss of vision or other ophthalmic disorders that may cause distress. They will also work very closely with these departments to help educate other staff about the triage process and what the basic parameters are.

The Urgent Clinic Triage Technician must have outstanding interpersonal skills. They must be reliable, independent, and able to work in a fast-paced team environment while maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude. In addition to exhibiting effective communication skills amongst the staff, the Triage Technician must also be able to directly communicate with the patients. The Triage Technician may also be involved in training other scheduling staff.

Location(s):      Remote

Schedule:         Monday- Friday, Full Time, No Nights or Weekends

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • COA, COT, COMT Required (JCAHPO)

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a COA, COT, or COMT.

  • Proficiency in all aspects of ophthalmic patient care, including advanced procedures.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure, while maintaining an elevated level of service and confidentiality.

  • Proficient computer and data entry skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Essential Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Urgent Care Assessment: Ability to assess a patient’s urgent eye care needs, via a question-and-answer process over the phone, and coordinate appropriate care.

  • Customer Service/Patient Care: Ability to provide comfort, professional attitude, reliability, and appropriate advice or recommendations.

  • Documentation: Document patient information and schedule appointments accurately and efficiently.

  • Teamwork: Collaborate with Central Scheduling staff, other schedulers, physicians and management as needed to ensure quality patient care.

  • Administrative Tasks: Assist with care coordination and scheduling for urgent same day appointment requests.
