Qualifications
Minimum
Licensed and currently registered or eligible for licensure and registration by the New York State Education Department as an Occupational Therapist.
Special Requirement
Possession of a license and registration by the New York State Education Department as an Occupational Therapist at the time of appointment.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of occupational therapy; good knowledge of the operation and minor maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in occupational therapy; good knowledge of community resources available to support or supplement the occupational therapy program; ability to evaluate, plan and execute treatments for patients; ability to plan and supervise the work of others; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Job Goal
Occupational therapy within the educational environment is directed toward providing services to allow the student with a physical disability to participate on and benefit from the least restrictive educational program. To fulfill the Mission of the District and the school assigned.
Responsibilities
All responsibilities listed need not be performed in a given position. Other related activities may be performed although not listed.
Provides screening for students suspected of having a physically or fine motor related disability.
Provides evaluations for referred students in conjunction with multidisciplinary assessment team.
Assesses developmental levels, range of motion, muscle strength, sensory integration, daily living skills, needs and uses of adaptive equipment.
Compiles reports and maintains records. Obtains current prescription for therapy from physician.
Provides occupational therapy as a related service to students recommended by the Committee on Special Education (CSE).
Provides consultation regarding students' needs to teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, administrators, and physicians.
Serves as liaison between school, medical, and other appropriate community agencies.
Prepares annual IEP goals and objectives for students and attends CSE and staff meetings as requested.
Works cooperatively with school personnel, students, and the community.
Fabricates and applies hand splints, trains students in the use of adaptive assistive devices and/or self-help techniques to achieve maximum independence.
Participates and assists in the development of educational programs and instructs in-service education programs.
Performs any other assigned duties and/or responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate by the Building Principal, Director of Special Education, Superintendent, or the Board of Education.

Evaluation
Performance of the job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Special Programs in accordance with Board of Education policy
