Nuclear Fuel Services Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer in Lynchburg, Virginia

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) engineers perform various activities to ensure plant operations comply with NRC License requirements in order to prevent a criticality accident. These include:

  • Performing NCS analyses to define the safety basis for SNM operations.

  • Advising production personnel on the impact of process changes and facility modifications.

  • Executing computer models to evaluate normal operations and process upsets with regards to NRC License limits.

  • Determining limits and controls to maintain operations critically safe.

  • Evaluating accident sequences and designating Items Relied On For Safety to ensure a criticality is highly unlikely.

  • Approving operating and maintenance procedures important to the safety of operations.

  • Participating in audits and inspections, investigations of unusual incidents, and design reviews.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    Job Qualifications/Requirements:

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering from an ABET Accredited Institution and a minimum of 4 years of experience. Nuclear Engineering degree is preferred.

  • Previous NCS experience preferred, especially in an NRC licensed fuel cycle facility.

  • Working knowledge of 10 CFR Part 70 beneficial.


US Citizenship, with no dual citizenship is required for this position.

Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Position requires U.S. Citizenship with (no dual citizenship) ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance which involves an extensive criminal and financial background investigation, drug test and previous employment reference verifications.
