Position Responsibilities: The Elevator Foreman's responsibilities involve service, maintenance, inventory and other duties assigned by management. The elevator foreman will maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the company and a favorable image of the company.

  1. Uphold company policies
  • Ensure that department facilities and equipment meet all federal, state, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensure that all location staff adhere to standard operating procedures as established by the company.
  1. Grain Management
  • Grain management involves assuring proper grain storage and condition, operating the grain dryer efficiently, blending grain for proper loading, assuring quality specification grain is used, practicing good housekeeping, and monitoring rodent infestation.
  1. Assure proper grain storage and condition
  • Properly assign grain to bins according to grade and moisture to maintain the highest quality possible
  • Maintain up-to-date bin charts showing type, weight, grade, and quantity of grain stored in each bin.
  • Check regularly on the condition of stored grain, so it can be turned when needed.
  • Treat grain when necessary.
  • Check flat storage regularly.
  • Assure proper aeration of each bin.
  • Check and record temperatures regularly.
  1. Operate grain dryer efficiently
  • Record quality of grain and moisture
  • Test weight before and after drying operation
  1. Blend grain for proper loading
  • Blend grain for load out to obtain the highest grade and price.
  • Load out hopper cars and grain trucks in approved manner.
  • Record all rail cars loaded including car number, date loaded, and amount loaded.
  1. Maintain good housekeeping to reduce chance of fire or dust collection
  • Check all areas at closing time for fire hazards.
  • Keep fire extinguishers fully charged and in designated places at all times.
  1. Grain receiving, sampling, and grading
  • Ensure grain is graded properly shipping.
  • Maintain adequate receiving capacity at all times.
  • Ensure all trucks are loaded properly i.e. observing weight restrictions.
  1. Inventory
  • Inventory involves managing inventory levels.
  • Develop and maintain a system for monitoring and controlling inventory levels that results in minimal shrinkage.
  • Ensure accuracy of all in-shipments for accuracy against the delivery ticket, proper quantity, price as ordered, and quality.
  • Clear out obsolete inventories, as necessary.
  1. Service
  • Service involves providing and promoting the service necessary to meet department's goals.
  • Have equipment in excellent operating condition by the beginning of harvest season.
  • Perform quality control to assure maintenance of product specifications.
  • Ensure equipment is properly installed and efficiently maintained.
  1. Maintenance
  • Maintenance involves maintaining property, facilities, and equipment.
  • Ensure property, facilities, and equipment remain in good repair and appearance.
  • Make recommendations on replacement, additions, or deletions of facilities and equipmentwhen needed and/or economically justified.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly department.
