KMAS Administrative Services Direct Support Specialist in Lusby, Maryland

Direct Support Specialist

(Onsite in Lusby, MD) - Personal vehicle required

This position involves working with a disabled and wheelchair adult who resides with their families or caregivers, ensuring their participation in all aspects of community life, offering and assisting with services that support them in doing so.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with daily living skills (e.g. lifting, transferring, toileting, bathing, personal hygiene, meals, laundry, dressing, social activities, etc.).

  • Promote appropriate community integration and social interaction.

  • Assisting in the implementation of outcomes and goals developed in the Individual Plan (IP).

  • Complete paperwork as assigned including documentation (e.g. monthly progress notes, community integration logs, incident reports, behavioral, medical/health, etc.)

  • Attend all meetings, in-service training, and routine check-ins as required by supervisor.

  • Work cooperatively with professional and paraprofessional staff in the best interest of the supported client.

  • Work cooperatively with the clients family members and caregivers.

  • Assist with the clients recreational, cultural and vacation plans of his/her choice.

  • Ensure that the client assigned has interaction opportunities with peers.

  • Ensure receipts and back-up documentation for any monetary responsibilities.

  • Demonstrate proper use of the agency approved timekeeping system.

  • Complete all agency required training for position.

``` - Maintain knowledge of emergency procedures as specified.

  • Monitor client to ensure safety in regard to medical, health, behavioral, and environmental issues.

  • Conduct drills as needed.

  • Assist with banking and budgeting and assist with shopping, when applicable.

  • Plan, assist, and participate in community outings with clients (e.g. visiting family, friends, church/temple, shopping etc.).

  • Maintain living environment in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) and health department standards.

  • Administer and record medications pursuant to State and Agency requirements, when applicable.

  • Accompany clients on medical emergencies as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.

  • Minimum 5 years related experience

  • Must be able to work independently

  • CPR and First Aid certified

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May be required to lift /assist in transferring clients 150 lbs., as needed

``` - Valid drivers license, vehicle registration, auto insurance, and 3-year clean driving record required

  • Client must have own reliable vehicle and willing to transport client and wheelchair (mileage reimbursement)

SCHEDULE:

Entire Weekend Required (32 Hours)

  • Saturday from 7am-11pm

  • Sunday from 7am-11pm

Additional weekend hours may be available to reach 40 hours weekly

BENEFITS:

  • 180-day probational period

  • 40 hours of PTO (after 90-days, no incidents)
