Position Description:

Perform legal work in the TTU System Office of General Counsel, an office with 17 attorneys across three office locations that provides legal services for the TTU System.

Major/Essential Functions:

  • Review and provide legal advice on transactional matters impacting the Texas Tech University System and component institutions.

  • Research and draft legal opinions, briefs, and other legal instruments for lawsuits and external complaints (e.g., EEOC, TWC-CRD, DOE, DOL).

  • Handle Texas Public Information Act requests and subpoenas; request opinions from the Office of the Attorney General of Texas.

  • Research, review, and interpret laws, regulations, and internal policies affecting operations and administration for Texas Tech University System and component institutions.

  • Assist and keep the Vice-Chancellor and General Counsel or designee apprised of all legal matters impacting the Texas Tech University System and component institutions.

  • Partner with clients as a strategic partner to work through complex legal matters effectively and promptly.

  • Engage in actions and communications that are consistent with the Texas Tech University System and component institution Values Culture.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must hold Juris doctorate and have graduated from an ABA approved law school within the past 12 months, and either be licensed to practice law in any U.S. state, or is actively pursuing such a license. Demonstrated excellence in legal research, legal analysis, and written and oral communication.

Our office (https://www.texastech.edu/ogc/index.php) serves as legal counsel for the Texas Tech University System, a $2.2 billion annual enterprise with over 20,000 employees and 53,000 students across its five component institutions: Texas Tech University (http://www.ttu.edu/) , Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (http://www.ttuhsc.edu/) , Angelo State University (http://www.angelo.edu/) , and Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso, and Midwestern State University (http://elpaso.ttuhsc.edu/) . Our office works directly with the Office of the Attorney General of Texas on litigation and manages outside counsel on certain specialized legal matters.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

The salary for this attorney fellow position is $40,000 annually.

This position is a temporary at-will employment appointment and will begin on September 1, 2024 and will end on or before August 31, 2025.
