We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Plastic Welding Engineer to join our dynamic team.
The Senior AME - Plastic Welding at GE Appliances will manage welding projects for large injection molded parts. This role will be responsible for the full program development of plastic welding processes, including tooling and equipment, ensuring that all procured or modified equipment is compliant with standards and executed within the project or program deliverables (cost, quality, and delivery). This AME role will be assigned to New Product Introduction (NPI) programs with the potential for future Run The Plant (RTP) projects to drive product cost out and factory productivity.

How You'll Create Possibilities
Experience managing capital equipment procurement projects, specifically plastic welding, primarily vibration and spin welding, tooling, machines and peripheral equipment. Primary duties include equipment specification development, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, technical reviews, factory layout development, installation and qualification of equipment.
Lead and attend tooling and equipment run-off trials at tooling and equipment suppliers to evaluate product condition and develop countermeasures for any concerns.
Collaboration and assistance with technology/design engineering in weld joint geometry and specification development. Potential to collaborate with external welding consultants.
Incorporate Early Equipment Management practices and hardware as appropriate in all projects.
Ensure adequate training and documentation are provided to plant personnel to ensure self- sufficient and sustaining operations.
Provide advanced plastic welding, specifically thermoplastic vibration, spin and/or ultrasonic, expertise in leading detailed and comprehensive planning for conceptualization, specification, development and implementation of right-sized welding and automation manufacturing equipment and tooling.
Ensure all welding tooling and equipment is reliable, robust and design to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Spec, build and qualify equipment to GE Appliances standards including the application of lean principles.
Own the program metrics as assigned to the welding assembly areas including manufacturing labor plan (VLOH), equipment and tooling budgets and quality of internal welded parts/products.
Manage multiple projects, high value projects and potentially provide leadership for larger projects. Must be able to analyze needs and determine best recommendations for equipment / process to optimize cost & performance.
Facilitate/lead the use of the Production Preparation Process (3P) and Lean manufacturing principles while developing manufacturing equipment and processes. Utilize cross-functional groups to ensure that the tooling, equipment and processes are compatible with the entire value stream. Efforts should include: right-sized equipment, workstation design, material presentation, standard work and single piece flow. Use data and statistics to characterize delivered manufacturing process capabilities in qualifying the release of processes and equipment.
Ensure all equipment executed in GEA factories comply with Industry (ANSI, ISO, NFPA) and Governmental Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards.
Utilize Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to ensure that all equipment and processes are implemented with the health and safety of the operators in mind. Develop mockups and prototypes to validate new designs and test for shop floor confirmation.
Work with AME engineers, factory operations and Lean teams to understand the Value Stream and how your projects impact this. Ensure material flow, workstation set up, model mix, etc. are considered when workstations / equipment are designed.
Investigate new technologies for appliance manufacturing and recommend applicable new technologies to quality and business leaders.
Work with design team to ensure Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) and is considered on part design.
As a senior professional, participate in growing the AME organization’s capability. This includes mentoring, guiding and helping more junior team members as well as adding to the body of knowledge of the department (training, developing new manufacturing processes, supporting Hoshin objectives, etc.)
What You'll Bring to Our Team
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
7+ years hands on & relevant plastic joining/welding experience including tooling procurement, specifying welding processes, tooling and fixture design concepts, tooling components, welding machines and automation for part presentation and transfer, including robots.
Prior experience in a large-scale manufacturing environment and capital equipment ($2MM).
Experience with Lean manufacturing principles.
Prior NPI (New Product Introduction) program experience.
Familiarity with 3D CAD (ProE, Solidworks, Creo or equivalent).
10-20% travel may be for domestic and/or international travel to supplier sites/ plants, etc.
Hours & Weekends: Working off-shift and weekends will be required, specifically during production launch periods.
