Description
Essential Functions:
Performs highly skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive machinery
Examples of Duties
Examples of Work:
UNDER GENERAL DIRECTION
Overhauls motors on trucks, cars, garbage packers, and other large equipment
Secures parts for vehicles
Makes service calls in the field
Diagnoses defects in automotive equipment
Corrects break downs or problems concerning automotive equipment
Corrects defective automotive equipment
Performs related work
Minimum Requirements
Physical Requirement & Working Conditions:
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbing
Lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team setting
Sufficient vision and hearing are needed to detect and correct mechanical problems
Minimum Requirements:
Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program
Mechanic
Two years of experience in mechanical work in a commercial garage
Other Minimums:
Must submit to and pass pre-employment and random alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the Department of Transportation
Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must be on 24-hour call
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Equivalency:
Additional experience may be substituted for the training requirement
Special Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement or obtain within six months of employment
