About the RoleSierra Space is seeking a motivated and talented Ground Software Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team. The intern will support the development, testing, and maintenance of ground software systems used for monitoring, controlling, and managing aerospace missions. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain real-world experience in aerospace software engineering and collaborate with industry professionals on critical projects. Our Interns have the unique experience of getting both mentoring and coaching while working side by side with recognized industry experts on real-world assignments directly related to their field of study. Summer internships are typically 10-12 weeks starting in late May/early June and work an average of 40 hours a week. Depending on satisfactory completion of certain criteria during your internship, you may be considered for a full-time position upon graduation. As a Technical Intern, you'll ask questions, get involved, bring your ideas, be part of an actual project team, attend planning meetings, complete assignments as tasked by your team, absorb and learn from your team and apply that learning to projects assig
You'll have the opportunity to learn fundamental business processes and procedures, build your technical foundation through practice and mentorship, and participate in an in-depth program built by our University Recruiting team, that includes cross-functional workshops and meeting with leadership to gain understanding of the business and Sierra Space culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the design, development, and testing of ground software systems for aerospace mission control and management
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and develop software solutions that meet project goals
Conduct software testing, debugging, and validation to ensure optimal performance and reliability
Compile and analyze data, prepare technical reports, and present findings to the engineering team
Support the integration of ground software systems with various hardware and software platforms
Document development processes, technical specifications, and user guides for ground software
Participate in code and design reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback

Minimum Qualifications:
Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
Must have at least one academic term remaining after the completion of the internship
Students must be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior undergraduate student or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. Program
Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
Ability to work in a highly colla orative team environment
Strong organization skills and work ethic; detail oriented
Preferred Qualifications:
Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline
Proficiency in programming languages such as C++ and Python
