Lockheed Martin Focal Plane Senior Staff Engineer in Louisville, Colorado

Description: We are looking for an engineer or scientist with a strong background in detector engineering to develop high TRL (Technical Readiness Level), space-based electro-optical systems. You will join a cross-functional team in the LM Space Optical Talent Center which develops a portfolio of electro-optical products consisting of telescopes, optical benches, focal plane array subassemblies, opto-mechanical subsystems, fast steering mirrors, electro-optical payload electronics, laser subsystems, laser controllers, and cryocooler subsystems including the systems and project engineering to field these systems.

As a Staff Electro-Optical Engineer you will be: (a) the technical lead to design, build, and test prototype-to-high TRL electro-optical hardware, (b) lead the development of electro-optical sensors working with suppliers, (c) lead program technical reviews throughout the product development and maturation processes assuring optical payloads with specific characteristics are within specified requirements and perform according to specifications, and (d) report progress to LM leadership and customers.

As an Focal Plane Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Execute assignments with broad guidance from senior engineering and program leadership

• Guide the work of junior and emerging engineers

• Monitor program budget and schedule including calling meetings, reviewing work products, and making adjustments to the program plan.

• Manage prospective and selected suppliers

• Deliver clear documents, briefings, and design reviews

• Working with Systems Engineering and subcontractors to develop specifications

• Assure optical payload subsystems meet specific

• Be a part of a team which develops designs, performs analyzes, and executes tests for electro-optical systems.

Basic Qualifications:

• Experience in electro-optic sensors and electronics

• Experience with imaging focal planes and relevant performance parameters

• Experience with integration, test and verification of sensor systems

• Experience deriving requirements and writing specifications based on customer requirements

• Experience in the development of verification plans and approaches to support development

• Experience leading technical teams in development of electro-optical systems and supporting program activities.

• US citizenship with ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance

Desired Skills:

• Knowledge of a wide range of detector technologies for use in the full optical spectrum from ultraviolet (UV) through long-wave infrared (LWIR) wavelengths

• Experience with both direct-detection and coherent-detection techniques

• Experience in optical theory and design, including radiometry, geometrical optics, physical optics, Fourier optics, adaptive optics, and fiber optics

• Experience developing analog and digital electronics for electro-optical subsystems

• Experience with signal and data processing including processing hardware and software/algorithms

• Active Secret, Top Secret, or TS/SCI security clearance

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off

Pay Rate:

The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Washington or Washington DC is $128,900 - $247,000 . Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.

Pay Rate:

The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California and New York is $148,200 - $279,300. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
