UCLA Health Staff Research Associate in Los Angeles, California

Description

Come join our exceptional Department of Neurobiology, and help lead the advancement of cutting-edge basic science research into explorations of the brain and central nervous system. In this Staff Research Assistant (SRA) 1 role you'll perform routine molecular biology techniques including DNA cloning and PCR.

The SRA 1 will also assist with:

  • Husbandry, genotyping, and mating of transgenic and knockout strains of mice.

  • Ovo electroporation of fertilized chicken embryos.

  • Extracting embryos or embryonic tissues from fertilized chicken embryos and pregnant mice.

  • Fixation, embedding, cryostat sectioning, and immunohistochemical staining of embryonic tissues.

  • Anterograde and retrograde labeling of neural circuits.

  • Collecting images using a conventional fluorescence microscope or a confocal microscope.

  • Culture of embryonic and neural stem cells, and neurons.

  • Immunohistochemical analysis of cultured cells or luciferase assay measurements.

Please note that this is a full-time up to 6-month limited position and may convert to career.

Salary range: $25.75 - $30.71 HourlyQualifications

Required:

  • BA/BS in neuroscience, molecular biology, developmental biology or equivalent.

  • Experience with animal experiments.

  • Familiarity with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Photoshop; ability to quickly learn special/custom application ImageJ, Axiovision, and Zen.

Strongly preferred:

  • Experience in basic cell and molecular biology techniques: plasmid purification, bacterial transformation, DNA cloning, immunocytochemistry, cell transfections.

  • Skills in tissue dissection and tissue culture.
