Cedars-Sinai Scientific Director, Center for Research in Women’s Health Science (CREWHS) in Los Angeles, California

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is seeking a Scientific Director, Center for Research in Women’s Health Science (CREWHS). This position will be responsible for mentoring junior multidisciplinary researchers engaged in women’s health or sex differences research, with the goals of producing publications and generating additional grant funding by those investigators. The director will manage CREWHS annual RFA process including the evaluation and selection process for distribution of research grants from CREWHS. The director will also continue their own research, manage their research team and retain funding.

The mission of CREWHS is to improve the health and care of women through all life stages by fostering innovation in research, clinical care, education, and policy. CREHWS seeks to expand multidisciplinary women’s health and sex differences research across Cedars-Sinai and translate this new knowledge into better outcomes for women in prevention of disease, disease recognition, disease management, psychosocial aspects of disease, and disparities in outcomes. CREWHS aims to facilitate multidisciplinary sex-based research by:

•Providing seed funding to junior investigators whose research is focused on areas that result in meaningful improvement in the care and outcomes for women.

•Promoting interactions between clinical, basic and translational scientists across all disciplines through seminars and workshops.

•Providing education and training to support the next generation of leaders in women’s health research.

•Funding very junior (premedical and graduate school) internships to promote early interest in women’s health science.

•Creating a public awareness campaign to address the critical gap in knowledge about women’s health.

CREWHS is led by a multidisciplinary steering committee with 11 members representing seven different departments. The Co-directors of the steering committee are Drs. Sarah Kilpatrick and Noel Bairey Merz. In the last four years CREWHS after a competitive RFA process has given out 17 research grants which have led so far to 4 new R01s and multiple publications.

Our compensation philosophy

We offer competitive total compensation that includes pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The base pay range shown takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including knowledge/skills; relevant experience and training; education/certifications/licensure; and other business and organizational factors. This base pay range does not include our comprehensive benefits package and any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role.

Pay Range: $71,000 - $260,000 Base Compensation

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  1. Doctorate (MD or PhD or both) with three (3) or more years’ experience in Women’s Health research

  2. Evidence of research funding in women’s health research

  3. National or international prominence with proven abilities as Principal Investigator and mentor

  4. Demonstrated ability in research mentoring

  5. Computer competency comprised of a working knowledge of Windows and/or a comparable operating system that sufficiently provides for access to patient and other business information
