Overview

THE ROLE:

Herbalife is seeking an experienced Corporate Communications and Media Relations Director with a proven track record in strategic communications, media relations, spokesperson/media training, crisis communications, corporate PR, product PR, writing, storytelling, executive positioning and thought leadership, earnings communications, global campaigns, analytics, and reporting. The Director will report to the VP, Global Corporate Communications and will lead, manage and motivate cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategic, integrated and impactful communications plans, positioning Herbalife as the world’s premier health and wellness company, community and platform.

The role works closely with corporate executives and senior leaders where business savvy and sound judgment are a must. In addition, the director must be able to effectively collaborate with and coach internal departments including product marketing, sports sponsorships, scientists and experts, executive leadership, investor and government relations, regional corporate communications, legal, and others. The director must thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment with the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and respond to multiple demands and requests.

This position requires a strong point-of-view, the ability to proactively anticipate the needs of the business, and the know-how to manage high-stakes issues and effectively respond to preconceived opinions of multi-level marketing business models.

HOW YOU WOULD CONTRIBUTE:

• Lead, motivate and coach cross-functional teams to deliver integrated communications campaigns from strategic planning through execution and results measurement.

• Serve as a trusted advisor. Build relationships and partner with external press and influencers to drive Herbalife’s agenda. Coordinate with internal (social, employee communications) and global teams to further amplify content and/or news.

• Drive consistency in all messaging; advance the corporate narrative to educate key partners (customers, distributors, investors, employees, and policymakers) on the company’s point of view, products and policies across all channels, including press, digital, events and analyst relations.

• Develop innovative storytelling efforts across traditional and new channels to include multimedia and cross-channel strategies.

• Identify and promote best-in-class communications practices and processes that will drive efficiencies across corporate communications.

• Produce original written communications, such as press releases, feature articles, announcements, news briefs, white papers, etc. to a very high standard. Edit materials produced by others for internal and external publication.

• Produce a range of materials such as position statements, Q&A and briefings for executives, managers, distributors and staff as required.

• Build and maintain relationships with consumer, business, financial, and trade media and key industry influencers. Track editorial calendars to ensure Herbalife inclusion in relevant articles and target publications.

• Arrange and coordinate interviews for key spokespeople. Provide effective media training.

• Create and maintain a communications data repository to include press packs, executive bios, photography, industry/company data points.

• Produce and distribute regular media analyses and reporting.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND BACKGROUND REQUIRED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

• 10+ years’ experience in PR / communications in a corporate setting or combination of corporate and agency settings. Public company experience and earnings communications a plus.

• Demonstrated expertise in development and execution of integrated communications strategies using diverse channels and effectively reaching target audiences

• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability work within matrix environment. Proven success managing, motivating and coaching cross-functional teams.

• Superior judgment, especially when working with corporate executives

• Ability to prepare executives and other spokespersons for media interviews and thought-leadership events using effective media training and public speaking coaching

• Proven ability to build and maintain positive media relationships; confidence to work with media to drive or adjust narrative/story angles and/or correct inaccuracies in reporting

• Strong business acumen and problem-solving skills

• Excellent oral and written communications skills

• Flexible and able to react positively to challenge and change

• Well organized and able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

• High level of attention to detail

• Creative and passionate

• Available for reasonable travel and some weekends as necessary

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervise a small team of direct reports, assigning and prioritizing the team’s work

• Motivate and coach team to ensure high-performance and timely delivery of quality work product

• Evaluate performance and set goals for team and individuals

• Prioritize overall health and wellness of team

• Address issues and potential conflicts in timely manner

• Ensure team is aware of and abides by company policies, procedures and ethical practices

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Public Relations or related field
