UCLA Health Cook, Per Diem - Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles, California
Description
This Cook position is responsible for performing a variety of duties relevant to the retail food service operations in the cafeteria at the Ronald Reagan Medical Center. Tasks include setting up service lines, pre-plating foods, preparation of meals, cooking, working the grill, omelet, and stir-fry station, and serving customers.
You will also be responsible for:
Reviewing menus, production sheets, recipes and tallied items to verify needs for the day
Bake, roast, grill, boil and steam meat, fish, vegetables and other foods
Clean, peel, cut, slice, dice, weigh and measure ingredients for recipes
Plate and/or garnish food for attractive presentation
This is a part-time per diem (as needed) position with a variable work schedule and working hours. May convert to Career.
his position may be required to travel to other UCLA Health sites including the Santa Monica Hospital.
Salary Range: $23.32-23.32 Hourly

Bill 525 was signed into law by Governor
Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum
wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary
threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year).
- As
defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are
involved in the provision of 'health care services,' which means 'patient
care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by
medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services;
janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office
clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center
and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such
services support patient care'.

Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical
facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital,
Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.
Qualifications
Required:
Must have ServSafe or equivalent safe food handling certification.
Experience cooking in a professional setting.
Knowledge and experience with fry grills, knives, meat slicers, steam cookers, ovens, food choppers, and food mixers.
Ability to work in a standing position for a long period of time; stretch, bend, walk, stoop and reach repetitively.
Ability to work in hot, cold, and/or wet areas.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs; push and/or pull 350+ lbs.
Ability to conform to dress code.
Ability to use strong cleaning solutions.
Ability to read, write, and comprehend standard English.
Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with co-workers, customers, supervisors and managers.
Ability to travel to multiple UCLA Health locations as needed.
