Budget Business Analyst – Rossier Business Operations

The University of Southern California Rossier School of Education seeks a customer service-driven, self-motivated, analytical Budget/Business Analyst to join its Business Operations office.

USC Rossier has been an integral part of the Los Angeles community since its founding as a pedagogy department at the University of Southern California in 1896. As a team member, the Budget/Business Analyst plays a crucial role in the continued success of the school and its academic programs.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance, the Budget/Business Analyst is responsible for providing critical support to the day-to-day financial operations of the Rossier Business Operations office as well as academic and auxiliary Rossier departments.

These support functions include but are not limited to:

Accountabilities:

  • Assists students, faculty, and staff with financial transactions such as goods and services requisitions, internal service deliveries, reimbursement processing, and initiating corporate card transactions.

  • Secures outsourced professional service agreements, including working with human resources to onboard independent contractors.

  • Submits invoices to accounts payable, requests supplier invoices, ad hoc employee/student payments, and limited engagement payees, such as honorariums for guest lecture speakers.

  • Monitors expenses and develops projections to extend financial commitments. Identifies variances and trends and brings them to the supervisor's attention for discussion and resolution.

  • Reconciles account balances and activity to university financial records and initiates correcting entries.

  • Runs Workday reports for various department accounts by monthly and fiscal year periods.

  • Inputs financial data to departmental accounting systems and prepares financial reports as required. Reviewing and analyzing expenses and ensuring accurate ledger, spend category, and each transaction has a valid business purpose.

  • Processes and allocates electronic deposits, ad hoc bank transactions, checks, and wire transfers to the appropriate accounts.

  • Assists in local planning of short and long-term budgets by compiling and organizing data for use in forecasts.

  • Advises students, staff, and faculty regarding university financial policies and procedures.

  • Coordinates year-end and monthly closing activities, including processing and correcting journal entries.

  • Interfaces with vendors as required.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Workday Financials, Jaggaer Marketplace, Concur Travel and Expense, Adobe Acrobat, Office 365 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams), Zoom Phone, and Video

  • Attention to detail; Excellent communication skills (written and oral); Collaborative and self-starter; Ability to prioritize tasks and projects according to provided guidelines.

  • This position is full-time, non-exempt / 37.5 hours per week; Required work hours are 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday; Hybrid work schedule (on-campus three days/week)

    The hourly range for this position is $34.43-$38.64. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree Addtional Education Requirements Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Minimum Experience: 1 year Minimum Skills: Business administration, accounting or related degree and budget experience including knowledge of government and fund accounting. Strong computer skills with use of automated spreadsheets. Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree Preferred Experience: 2 years Preferred Skills: University budget experience and knowledge of university financial systems.
