Los Alamos National Laboratory Work Control Team Lead (Maintenance Manager 2) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

The Maintenance and Site Services (MSS) Division is a multidisciplinary organization whose primary mission is to provide the Laboratory-both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities-with safe, reliable, and efficient infrastructure maintenance and utilities support.

Work Control is a multidisciplinary group, providing deployed support to all Facility Operations Directorates (FODs) for maintenance planning, scheduling, and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) support. The MSS-Work Control group uses Integrated Work Management to plan, schedule, and perform work in a safe and secure manner.

You will be responsible for managing the Central Work Control Support team. You will be responsible for the following:

  • Increasing organizational efficiencies and productivity through improved teamwork and integration of the Maintenance Site Services, Engineering and Operations departments.

  • Functional and operational direction to Work Control Planners and Maintenance Support Specialists including all management and oversight functions.

  • Overseeing the preparation, review, and issue of work control documents and work orders for corrective, preventive, service, or continuous type work activities in accordance with applicable procedures and regulations.

  • Overseeing the minor or major revision of the work packages.

  • Tracking work package priorities and motivates planning team to strive for meeting set priorities and milestones.

  • Creating and submitting applicable reports as requested by maintenance management or operations management.

  • Monitoring training plans of team members and ensuring training obligations are met by team members.

  • Managing other functional and administrative activities in conjunction with the primary work control/work package development including, but not limited to, permit development, testing requirements, documentation generation, records management, database information management, and/or retrieval and review.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Facility Management: Thorough knowledge of facilities operations practices and procedures. Full understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures.

Maintenance Operations: Full knowledge of work planning and scheduling processes. Demonstrated experience and skill in identifying problem areas, investigating alternative solutions, and determining action to be performed on problems affecting the maintenance program.

Leadership: Ability to challenge individuals to develop skill outside of their comfort zone. Identify and develop successor to key roles. Deal directly with internal discipline to resolve problems and provide solutions. Ability to Mentor and coach junior employees. Demonstrated experience in management or lead role capacity.

Technology: Demonstrated expertise with a computerized work management system such as Asset Suites, SAP, Maximo etc.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 3 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Los Alamos National Laboratory policies, procedures, and organizational structures.

  • Active Q clearance

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular Position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
