Los Alamos National Laboratory Undergraduate Student within eXperience IT Division in Los Alamos, New Mexico
What You Will Do
Come and join the eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division! XIT division is seeking energetic and customer-focused undergraduate (https://int.lanl.gov/employees/education/undergraduate/index.shtml) students to support the computing environment within the Laboratory. The division's 4 groups are organized around field support groups that are focused on supporting the unclassified and classified programmatic and mission support needs, and a technical services group that provides the enterprise level configuration management services for LANL computing environments.
All candidates must have and maintain a minimum of 3.0/4.0 GPA for consideration and enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester. For full consideration, candidates must be pursuing one of the following degrees (or equivalent): Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cyber Security, System Administration, or Information Engineering Technology.

Demonstrated experience in customer service, teamwork, and collaboration
Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
Time management, organization skills and detail oriented
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (O365)
Knowledge of or courses taken in Windows, Mac OS X desktop administration, Linux
Knowledge of or courses taken in solving software and hardware issues
Desire to learn new technologies
Desired Qualifications:
Knowledge of or courses in network troubleshooting
Knowledge of or experience administrating Linux, Windows, or Mac systems
Knowledge of or experience with hardware or software hard drive encryption
Courses taken or vendor certification (Apple Mac or Microsoft Windows)
Knowledge of or courses taken in Linux desktop administration
Knowledge or familiarity with Linux platforms
Education/Experience: Enroll in and successfully complete a minimum of 12 undergraduate credit hours per semester (or the equivalent of full-time enrollment) in a Computer Science, Information Technology, (or relevant IT focus) major. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
Work Environment: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM with the potential for teleworking from a location within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite will be periodically required. Telework is at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 (https://www.directives.doe.gov/directives-documents/400-series/0472.2-BOrder-chg1-pgchg) for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
