Los Alamos National Laboratory Training Program Specialist (Learning Specialist 2/3) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

Learning Specialist 2 ($69,500 - $110,300)

As a Learning Specialist 2, you become an integral member of the Institutional Support Services team, spearheading comprehensive training support. Your dynamic engagement involves collaborating with customers, stakeholders, sponsors, and regulators to ensure that our training programs not only meet but exceed customer needs, regulatory imperatives, contractual obligations, and the mission agenda. In constant collaboration and partnership with subject matter experts, weaving together a training program that seamlessly integrates both internal and external training requirements. Your expertise will be the driving force behind the development and maintenance of a training program that stands as a testament to excellence, setting a benchmark for industry standards.

Learning Specialist 3 ($83,900 - $136,600)

Additionally, a Learning Specialist 3 is viewed as a seasoned professional with wide-ranging experiences who accomplishes work without considerable direction while independently developing resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity and where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. A Learning Specialist 3 uses industry concepts and Laboratory objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Frequently contributes to the development of new theories and methods and may require you to work in a range of environments. Including representing the organization before regulatory agencies on matters pertaining to the institutional training program.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements - Learning Specialist 2

  • Demonstrated experience in the development and evaluation of training programs.

  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others. Ability to interact professionally with all types of personnel, including external interfaces and management.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of common computer-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and performance-based training techniques.

  • Ability to research and identify requirements as they pertain to organizational or regulatory needs and requirements.

  • Ability to prioritize and orchestrate effective, efficient, and dedicated working pathways in a dynamic environment.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. The degree should be in Training, Education, or a related filed

Additional Job Requirements - Learning Specialist 3

  • Technical expertise in the development and evaluation of training programs for adult learners.

  • Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide clear, concise support and guidance to others. Ability to interact professionally with all types of personnel, including external interfaces and executive management.

  • Expert-level proficiency in the use of common computer-based applications (e.g., Microsoft Office).

  • Expert knowledge of adult learning theory, performance-based training techniques, and systematic approach to training methodologies.

  • Demonstrated ability to research and identify requirements as they pertain to organizational/regulatory needs and requirements.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize project management skills and techniques across a wide array of deliverables.

Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field and 8 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. The degree should be in Training, Education, or a related filed

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Department of Energy (DOE) orders and standards and Laboratory policies and procedures pertaining to training.

  • Sound understanding of the Laboratory's learning management system (UTrain) and related information data systems (i.e., Oracle).

  • Knowledge of process improvement concepts

  • Knowledge of project tracking and organizational tools

  • Sound understanding of the systematic approach to training processes.

  • Knowledge of document control processes and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver content to all levels of personnel.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
