Los Alamos National Laboratory Senior Video Teleconferencing Tech (Network Systems Tec 4) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

LANL's Infrastructure Services Division's Telecommunications Services (ISD-TS) group is seeking an experienced Network Systems Technician 4 to provide support services for the Collaborative Meetings team at Los Alamos National Laboratory's Los Alamos and Santa Fe Sites. ISD-TS provides telecommunication technologies and services enabling science, research programs, and daily operations at LANL. We provide LANL with voice, wireless, data, and video communication services. This position is your chance to make a real difference in supporting communication services that directly affects scientific discovery and national security. You will be responsible for configuration, and maintenance of secure and unclassified teleconferencing for the Laboratory's collaboration rooms. You will also perform Tier 1/2 system troubleshooting services for collaboration room systems and desktop conferencing systems (specifically WebEx and Teams conferencing).

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Experience providing telecommunications technical support in a busy environment, requiring experience with duties such as complex calendar management, meeting scheduling/logistics, and management of remote meetings.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office features, such as Word documents, SharePoint libraries, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint presentations.

  • Demonstrated experience with desktop conferencing systems (such as WebEx, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams).

  • Experience installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining client, video conference server, and network hardware.

  • Experience installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining video conferencing equipment, such as microphones, sound speakers, video screens, video monitors, recording equipment, connecting wires and cables.

  • Advanced knowledge of videoconferencing security concepts and general network security requirements.

Education/Experience: Education/Experience: Position requires a High School diploma and 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with computer network hardware such as routers, switches, and firewalls and the software associated with these types of devices.

  • Experience with federal government conferencing security requirements.

  • Demonstrated advanced ability to network effectively with other administrators and key contacts outside their own area of expertise, both internal and external to the organization.

  • Advanced experience with Audio Video Equipment, such as Audio Mixers, Audio Systems, Video Systems.

  • Basic Knowledge of Digital Signage Systems, such as Cisco Audio/Video Technology.

  • Advanced knowledge of Video Teleconferencing Systems including the configuration of Cisco codecs, media display systems, and bridging servers.

Work Environment:

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
