Los Alamos National Laboratory Production Control Specialist 1/2 (Inventory Custodian) in Los Alamos, New Mexico

What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Production Control Specialist 1 or Production Control Specialist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

DP (Detonator Production) Division is the premier Production Agency (PA) assigned to produce WR (War Reserve) detonators for the Nation's nuclear stockpile security mission.

The Division is part of LANL's Weapons Production Directorate, and is comprised of a team of motivated, highly-skilled technical and operational support staff working in an integrated format. The organization is centered on high-rigor manufacturing operations to produce precision, safe and reliable WR detonator products. DP partners closely with customers and stakeholders such as NNSA (National Nuclear Security Administration), Weapon System Design Agencies (LANL, Sandia, and Livermore), and LANL program management orgs to deliver on uniquely challenging, high-consequence National security objectives. Production Control Specialist 1 ($57,800-$89,500)

This position will assist in providing detonation related products and services to assist in the protection of our nation and promote world stability. As a Production Control Specialist 1, you will report directly to the First Line Manager (FLM) in Detonator Production Support (DP-SUP) and collaborate closely with colleagues.

Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • standardizing and coordinating supply chain processes that provide materials and equipment to the production organizations

  • deploying material across the production organizations; inspection to inventory and shop floor

  • constructing material kits for production

  • moving HE /non-HE material to the production floor

Production Controls Specialist 2 ($69,500-$110,300)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the PCS2 will be expected to:

  • Research, assemble, and evaluate information and make recommendations and solutions to complex issues affecting the deployment of material and equipment to the production organizations.

  • Contribute to the resolution of problems of moderately complex scope affecting detonation related prodcuts and services.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Production Control - Knowledge of and ability to learn production and inventory control and planning methods.

Inventory - Knowledge of inventory management and control practices, including cycle counting and physical inventory management practices.

Manufacturing - Ability to learn manufacturing work control processes.

Material Handling - Ability to learn materials handling, inventory and/or warehouse operations.

Customer Service - Experience working independently and in team environments responding to customer requests and providing responsive professional service.

Applications: Proficient with Microsoft Office productivity software (Word, Excel).

Tracking Performance: Experience with project oriented work environments, tracking progress and monitoring performance.

Additional Job Requirements for Production Controls Specialist 2:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requ i res:

Production Control - Demonstrated experience using production and inventory control and planning methods.

Inventory - Demonstrated experience with inventory management and control practices and utilizing cycle counting and physical inventory management practices.

Material Handling - Demonstrated experience with materials handling, inventory and warehouse operations.

Education/Experience at lower level : Position requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Education/Experience at higher level : Position requires 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

HE Handler: High Explosive Handler training and experience in activities in machining, pressing, firing, and packaging with emphasis on packaging.

Scheduling: Experience working in a production-manufacturing environment with aggressive production schedules and frequently shifting priorities.

Database Systems: Experience using material requirements planning (MRP); or enterprise resource planning (ERP); or work control database systems.

Continuous Improvement: Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies.

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 (https://directives.nnsa.doe.gov/supplemental-directive/sd-0206-0002) . Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
