What You Will Do

Make a difference by applying your project management, construction management, project controls, and engineering skills at a world-renowned national laboratory dedicated to helping solve some of the nation's most challenging national security problems.

The United States and its allies depend on Los Alamos National Laboratory's contributions to nuclear deterrence and national security through innovation in research and development. Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) was established in 1943 to conduct scientific research for the Manhattan Project, an allied effort that developed the world's first atomic weapons.

The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Infrastructure and Capital Projects (ALDICP) has co-op positions available for graduate students in the areas of construction management, project management, project controls, infrastructure, and subcontractor management. Multiple teams within the ALD are seeking team-oriented and highly motivated students. The selected students will partner with an experienced mentor in a specific area of Infrastructure and Capital Projects who will provide guidance and feedback throughout the course of the co-op program. Students will gain invaluable experience supporting work planning, execution, and improving our project capacity. The co-op program offers the opportunity for rotational exposure in all functional areas of Infrastructure and Capital Projects with the intent of hiring successful participants full time after graduation.

Over the next 30 years, significant investment is planned to modernize and expand the Laboratory's capabilities. Projects include new office buildings, light industrial-use facilities and small laboratories. These can be modular constructed buildings fabricated off-site, stick build, or a combination. Scope includes design, foundation work, building construction, electrical, water and gas utilities and tie-ins, HVAC, telecommunications, access controls and fire protection/alarm.

Large line-item projects to construct new facilities while decommissioning of old infrastructure will support plutonium missions. Projects include offices, training facilities, fabrication shops, and experimental facilities. Scope includes design of the facility or utilizing pre-developed designs, construction of the facility, to include foundation work, fabrication of the structure, and design/installation of the facility subsystems (HVAC, electrical, telecommunications, safety systems, access control, and other utilities).
