What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either theEngineering Technologist 1or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Contribute to a dynamic team of facility engineering professionals that provide engineering solutions across a wide variety of buildings at one of the most important research facilities in the world. Los Alamos National Laboratory is looking for an enthusiastic junior-level field engineers with an interest in building systems and infrastructure to work in the Engineering Services. This posting is for multiple Field Engineering positions within the following disciplines: Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, Mechanical, Pressure Safety, Welding, Fire Protection, Civil, and Structural.
Engineering Technologist 1 ($77,300 - $126,000) )
The Field Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the technical aspects of construction and maintenance projects are in full conformance with approved document and contractual documents by monitoring facility maintenance and construction activities. This is accomplished by ensuring that baseline documents are accurate, design documents are adhered to, and as-built configurations are verified. Field Engineers expedite project execution through identifying issues, coordinating technical solutions, and providing timely guidance through approved policies and procedures.
Engineering Technologist 2 ($85,400—$139,600)
The Field Engineer 2 will be responsible in leading all aspects of the Engineering Technologist 1 position.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to oversee, develop, and/or enforce adherence to Contract Documents consisting of drawings and specifications to define changes to buildings and infrastructure.
Proven ability to effectively communicate engineering solutions both verbally and in writing for management, customers, peers, and craft personnel. Including preparing Field Change Requests and daily progress reports and keeping supervisors properly informed on the progress of all assigned tasks.
Skilled at preparing field material purchase requisitions through material take-off, including estimating the quantities and assuring compliance with design specifications and drawings.
Experienced reviewing Work Packages and Work Instructions for completeness; project design and engineering documents to ensure their completeness and constructability; inspecting construction work for compliance with drawings, specifications and national codes and standards; and performing witness testing, interpretation of design drawings and specifications, and closeout requirements.
Additional Job Requirements for Engineering Technologist 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Demonstrated ability to independently lead all activities listed above.
Experienced working independently on tasks ranging in complexity.
Education/Experience at lower level: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Education/Experience at higher level: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Technology, Science, Math or related degree from an accredited institution and 5 years of directly related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Knowledge of DOE and LANL Engineering Standards and Conduct of Engineering principals and procedures.
Fundamental knowledge of engineering and construction techniques, applications of engineering and construction methods, and application of technology and tools to conventional facility operation and construction operations.
Fundamental knowledge of construction work planning and control methods.
Fundamental knowledge of facility maintenance and installation techniques.
Awareness of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular construction discipline.
Fundamental knowledge of construction principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
