Safeguards Deployed Security is seeking a motivated individual(s) to support the Deputy Director's Office for Science, Technology and Engineering (DDSTE), and the Deputy Director's Office of Operations (DDOPS) security policy. You will be instrumental in helping maintain the safety and security of these Laboratory facilities. Working in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment, you will need to have a keen eye for detail, maintain a positive, customer-focused attitude, and ensure all LANL and Federal security requirements are met while optimizing efficiency/success for the important work being accomplished. More importantly, you must be able to demonstrate and promote self-responsibility for safety, security, quality, and environmental standards in all operations. The Deployed Security Professional is an advisor and reports to the Security Program Leader for the DDSTE and DDOPS directorate.

The successful candidate will:

Develop a complete understanding of security requirements and procedures; assist in the implementation of security plans; perform incident response; conduct security reviews and recommend corrective actions; contribute to presentation and awareness of security themes and topics; develop networks within and outside the organization; help to set security-related priorities; and function as an informal work leader with limited supervision in daily tasks.

This position will be filled at either the Security Specialist 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Security Specialist 2 ($76,900 - $122,200)

The Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Deployed Security Group is looking for a motivated security professional to work in the Deployed Security program, partnering closely with the DDOPS and DDSTE directorate. As the Deployed Security Specialist you will work to ensure that all LANL and Federal security requirements are met while optimizing efficiency/success for the important work being accomplished at LANL. The successful candidate will:

  • Work closely with their assigned organization to support mission success while ensuring adherence to all applicable security policies/procedures.

  • Work closely with the Security Incident Team to perform incident response and mitigation.

  • Conduct on-site security walk-downs and implement corrective actions when needed.

  • Brief organizations and management on the security posture within their organizations.

  • Create and deliver presentations/awareness pieces to provide information and instruction on a variety of security job-related functions.

Security Specialist 3 ($92,300 - $151,000)

In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the selected candidate will be required to:

  • Actively mentor new hires to help foster and promote professional development.

  • Lead small teams within the group on focused security related projects and activities.

  • Conduct peer reviews within the group on security related awareness pieces.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Knowledge and experience in one or more of the major security areas - classified matter protection and control, physical security, computer security, and personnel security; experience in the preparation and presentation of reports; strong interpersonal skills and experience in customer or relationship management; demonstrated ability in writing and implementing procedures, policies, guides or other formal documents for compliance with security requirements; experience interfacing with management, technical personnel and external stakeholders; previous team leadership in setting objectives and delegating work; experience in problem-solving and contributing to process improvement efforts; ability to use basic software suites to perform, manage and distribute work.

Additional Job Requirements for Security Specialist 3 position:

In addition to the Job Requirements outlined above, qualification at the Security Specialist 3 level requires:

  • Advanced experience interfacing with all levels of management, technical, and non- technical personnel.

  • Advanced experience leading small teams, setting goals, and delegating tasks.

  • Advanced knowledge and experience conducting causal analysis, writing corrective actions, and evaluating effectiveness.

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Education/Experience at higher level: The position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience in sensitive facility security operations; knowledge and experience with security assessments and risk management processes; understanding of Department of Energy security and safeguards policies, practices, and procedures; active DOE Q clearance.

Work Environment:

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.

Internal Applicants : Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
