Shift worker (less than 20 hours/week)

$15/hour

 

SCHEDULE:   Flexible, to include some evenings/weekends; on-call duties 

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Senior Social Service Worker will be responsible to the Program Manager of the locality they are employed in. They will be expected to work within the policies and procedures of Family & Community Services, Inc., and work toward the maintenance of good service standards and professional practices. To work toward the provision of a plan and stimulating environment for veteran residents. 

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee day-to-day operations of the facility in absence of Program Manager.

  2. Assist in the development of policies and procedures under the direction of the Program Manager.

  3. Maintain staff schedule and approve shift-changes for support workers in coordination with Program Manager.

  4. Assist in completing billing and payroll for the facility and staff as need

  5. Attend meetings, trainings, and conferences as requested.

  6. To maintain all records and logs.

  7. To provide staff support when on-call

  8. To assist in providing coverage for open shifts and call offs when on-call.

  9. To undertake risk assessments according to policies and procedures.

  10. To assist in the initiation, development, and oversight of new aspects of service provision including use and access to ordinary community facilities. 

  11. Provide direct supervision to local Support Workers. 

  12. Supports Case Manager and their duties in their absence and/or as needed

  13. Assist with provision of a wide range of practical, personal, social, and general care services for veteran residents.

  14. Undertake comprehensive assessments of a veteran resident's needs and to develop an appropriate support plan with the veteran resident, as needed.

  15. To undertake monitoring and reviewing of the agreed support plan according to the changing needs of the veteran resident, as needed.

  16. To promote veteran resident involvement by maximizing veterans' participation in the decision-making process within the services, as needed.

  17. To communicate and liaise with various agencies (e.g. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Services Commission, Probation Services, Housing Authority, Landlords, Department of Jobs and Family Services, Legal and Consumer Credit Organizations).

  18. To accompany veteran residents to appointments with any of the above agencies if necessary.

  19. Collects, provides and updates required data for the HMIS database, as needed 

  20. Participates in community-wide events promoting services for veterans and families.

  21. To promote anti-discriminatory practice ensuring that no veteran resident is discriminated against on the grounds of race, class, gender, religious beliefs, disability, or sexual orientation.

  22. To apply Housing First, Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction principles and to use Motivational Interviewing, and De-escalation Techniques in working with veterans of the program as appropriate.

  23. To provide a level of support necessary to ensure all veteran residents experience an improved quality of life (e.g. leisure facilities, social skills, enabling informed choices, and therapeutic skills).

  24. To operate within the existing social service assistant system.

  25. To be able to adapt to the environment you are working in, this could be part of a team or own initiative in a variety of settings.
