Seeking a qualified candidate to fill an experienced Piping Design & Drafting Technician position in the Plant Services Division at the Longview, Texas location of Eastman Chemical Company. This will include support for a small projects team in a large chemical manufacturing facility, and may involve work in specific areas such as Piping, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Vessel Design, etc. This position involves a combination of capital project and plant maintenance support activities.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Use MicroStation, AVEVA E3D and drawing maintenance database in support of job duties.

  • Prepare, revise, research and interpret engineering drawings and assist in development of engineering designs.

  • Assist in preparation, maintenance, and improvement of drafting and design related work processes and standards.

  • Assist in estimating and maintenance of the estimating database

  • Learn, interpret and apply site and corporate design standards, and industry code requirements and standards

  • Work with plant support and capital project teams to ensure documentation is updated to reflect "as-built" conditions after new installations or maintenance.

  • Work with contractors, construction and other plant personnel on new installations, inspection, and maintenance of systems

  • Serve as liaison with contractors to provide drawings, calculations, field walk-through, and other information as needed

  • Inspect installations and report/resolve differences in field installation and design

  • Understand chemical properties and assess hazards

Qualifications:

  • Must possess an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Design and Drafting from an accredited program.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle Driver’s License

  • Must have proficiency in the use of MicroStation / AUTOCAD or similar computer drafting software

  • Strong preference for three or more years drafting and design experience in industrial facilities

  • Strong preference for drafting and design experience in chemical or oil & gas industries

  • Experience in piping, P&ID, and/or drafting and design is preferred

  • Must possess strong teamwork, communication, organizational and problem solving skills

  • Must have ability:

  • to interpret and apply design standards and industry code requirements

  • to perform related calculations and initiative to manage multiple projects and tasks with minimal supervision

  • to produce engineering drawings and assist in development of engineering designs

  • to research and interpret drawings, gather field information, prepare permits, work with construction personnel, and complete other tasks associated with design and inspection to ensure installation per design.

Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, performs routine tasks in preparing and maintaining detailed design drawings, schematics or specifications typically using computer-aided design software. Works closely with design originators (e.g., engineers, designers) to resolve design details or discrepancies or to prepare drawings which require a high degree of precision using computer-aided drafting (CAD) or computer-aided engineering (CAE) equipment. Creates, modifies and controls detailed two- and three-dimensional parts and assembly drawings from engineers' and technicians' sketches, plans and written and verbal instructions. Follows established drafting standards and procedures.

Qualifications

Entry. Has basic skills in an analytical or scientific method or operational process. Works within clearly defined standard operating procedures and/or scientific methods and adheres to quality guidelines. Works with close supervision.
