Job Overview

The Laboratory Technician I provides support to laboratory personnel, assists in performing lab work such as running reactions, preparing laboratory solutions, and media prep. Additionally, this role will be responsible for sample management coordination and documentation. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned and cross trains to be able to back up other team members. All work is conducted per SOPs and GMP practices.

Responsibilities

  • Login samples for tracking chain-of-custody and for testing

  • Label samples

  • Create Sample folder

  • Notify the laboratory that a sample is awaiting analysis

  • Compile sample-specific documentation to accompany samples being returned to client

  • Maintain cleanliness of laboratory and sample storage areas.

  • Follows written procedures.

  • Empties sample containers for washing glassware for department as needed.

  • Clearly and accurately documents activities.

  • Perform basic math calculations.

  • Prepare solutions

  • Perform daily equipment checks and calibrations (i.e. pH, balances)

  • Maintains chemical inventory, including ordering of chemicals and parts to support lab

  • Prepares solutions

  • May be asked to perform additional duties in assigned and unassigned areas.

  • Promotes a safe work environment. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Understands and follows safety procedures and works in a manner to avoid injury to self and co-workers. Willingness to work with highly toxic and controlled substances.

  • Ability to work in a regulated environment (FDA/DEO/OSHA) and strictly follow procedures.

  • Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing. Ability to read and comprehend detailed written instructions.

  • Ability to clearly and concisely document all work activities in a timely manner utilizing existing forms and records. Writes legibly.

  • Perform basic math functions to include product accountability and material adjustment calculations and rounding. Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to move materials throughout facility using appropriate methods and equipment.

  • Operate machinery and read process control instruments to ensure proper operation. Identify operations problems when they occur.

  • Ability to clean rooms, equipment and tools for use in a cGMP environment.

  • Perform basic troubleshooting applications.

  • Provide basic training to other operators after learning a skill set.

  • Must have the ability to work overtime when required.

  • Must adhere to attendance policy of Avista. Expected to arrive for shift on time and contact management immediately if unable to attend work for any period of time.

Education, Experience & Licensing Requirements

High school diploma, some college, or equivalent with 1+ years of experience in a regulated environment.

The hiring range in Colorado for this position is $23/hour - $27/hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills and experience of the applicant, internal equity and alignment with market data. This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act. This position includes a competitive benefits package.

Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, and observe color changes.

Incumbent will have duties in the control room as well as in the outside production unit. The outside production unit consists of multi-level areas accessible by stairs and ladders. There are also isolated, environmentally controlled rooms used for raw material charging and final product drumming. The employee will be required to wear the appropriate personal protective equipment for specific job duties to be performed. Such personal protective equipment may include, but not limited to: safety eyewear, hearing protection, various types of respirators/breathing apparatus, lab coats, full protective body coverings, various types of gloves, etc. The noise level is moderate to loud. Frequently, employee is exposed to airborne particles and fumes. Employee is exposed to various chemicals.
