WAM Engineering Investments Technology is aligned to support the technology needs of Schwab Asset Management (SAM) investment professionals across portfolio management, trading, and compliance for Schwab’s proprietary mutual funds, referred to as the Schwab Funds and Schwab’s exchange-traded funds, referred to as the Schwab ETFs™. With over $1Trillion in assets under management, SAM is the 3rd largest provider of index funds, 5th largest provider of ETFs and the 5th largest provider of money market funds.

Our group is responsible for the division’s use of information technology including all telecommunications, operations, client, and business applications. We are essentially the front-office for Schwab Asset Management that continues to harness state-of-the-art technologies for differentiating Schwab portfolio research and asset management. Our team has won several industry awards such as the “Best IT Team of the Year” and the “Asset Manager Digital Tool of the Year.

This role will lead the software development lifecycle including the coordination, prioritization, and communication across the technical product areas. It will include building and realizing the strategy for the teams to support the dynamic needs of the Schwab Wealth and Asset Management business.

The role is a hands-on development role, building a client driven technology organization. The role entails full Agile and DevOps model in partnership of SAM business—actively working with Product Owners, End-Users, Partners—in managing requirements, design, coding, testing (unit and functional), deployment and post-release support. Evaluate complex project goals and clarify objectives and functional requirements for new or modified customer features. Lead the design or provide feedback on system software using specialized domain knowledge and developed business expertise.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • A university degree from a well-respected academic institution; advanced degrees in Information or Computer Science or Engineering ion is highly desired.

  • Experience with Schwab technology & domain gained as a current Schwab contractor is a must

  • 8+years of professional experience, preferably 5-yrs in the financial industry

  • 5-7+ years of experience in systems development life cycle including the ability to define design specifications, mentoring junior developers to design/analyze alternative technical solutions, develop and test completed code and complete a smooth implementation with the business partners.

  • .Net/ C# for writing backend code for portfolio management, order trade flows or building trading algorithms.

  • Recent experience working in Agile teams; with delivery of a significant functionality into production.

  • Strong knowledge of webservices and/or API specifications and ability to transform business requirements to stories in JIRA and confluence.

  • Entity Framework usage, data access patterns and data tuning experience

  • Development focused on performance, application security, and other non-functional requirements.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to express ideas clearly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing backend code for Portfolio management or Trading applications in Investment management.

  • Experience in enterprise public cloud environments – GCP, AWS, Azure, or equivalent experience.

  • Powershell and Bamboo for CI/CD deployment automation and Python for service automation

  • Angular 7 and above / Single page application development

  • RabbitMQ, Kafka or any modern messaging framework

  • Experience in building real-time, event driven service-oriented software.

  • Experience with writing APIs and data load programs for Order Management Systems - BlackRock Aladdin, CRD or other widely used enterprise OMS solutions.

  • Coordinating user acceptance testing between vendor, business and WAM technology team.

  • Ensuring that system solutions are delivered successfully to the business stakeholders.

  • Adapting to changing priorities and managing multiple tasks.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.

CO Salary Range: USD $140,000 - $180,000 / Year
