Responsibilities

Sterile Processing Technicians are responsible for cleaning, assembly, and sterilization of instrumentation from all areas of the hospital. They pick up and deliver as needed following AAMI, OSHA, and Joint Commission recommendations for identifying contaminated and clean items. They may assist with case cart assembly and OR room turnover. Technicians contribute to the department goals through quality services.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for cleaning, inspecting, processing, assembling, and sterilization of all instruments and equipment following Policy/Procedure, Industry Standards, and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU).

  2. Practices Universal Precautions and follows OSHA requirements at all time.

  3. Responsible for Performing daily/weekly testing and logging of all mechanical equipment, including but not limited to, Mechanical Washers, Sonic, all Sterilizers.

  4. Maintains accurate and legible documentation.

  5. Assists with the routine maintenance of instrumentation by identification of items needing repair.

  6. Follows procedure for set assembly utilizing Instrument Checklists and/or Instrument Tracking where available.

  7. Completes case cart assembly, assists with OR room turnover, cleaning & HLD of GI Scopes, Bronchoscopes, TEE probes and assists with the maintenance of Instrument Tracking data.

  8. Uses supplies (wrap, containers, chemicals, etc) efficiently, correctly, and according to IFU.

  9. Participates in Department activities including, but not limited to, Orientation, system education, Quality, Daily briefing, & supply needs.

  10. A resource for the department; One Source, Cost efficiencies, IFU.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma

Required Licensure and Certifications:

  • Certified in Sterile Processing

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training:

  • Minimum 1 year experience or Graduation from Sterile Processing Program.

  • Successful completion of Sterile Processing Tech I and Tech II competencies.

PREFERRED Qualifications:

  • Preferred 2-5 years’ experience in field or Surgical Technician.

Pay Range

$15.61 - $20.54 /hour
