Specific Duties

The Senior Development Engineer will lead the engineering development team assigned to each bid working closely with the Business Development Manager(s) and be responsible for specific duties as follows:

  • Bid Development:

  • Lead the identification of Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) at potential customer sites

  • Organise and carry out energy audits and surveys

  • Prepare/check preliminary capital cost and energy savings models for each ECM

  • Prepare/check the technical write up for inclusion in bid submission

  • Provide guidance and training for engineers in the development team

  • Attend regular client project meetings

  • Identify new and innovative technologies and solutions

  • Present technical solutions at bid meetings

  • High Level Appraisals:

  • Lead, organise and conduct High Level Appraisals at customer sites

  • Assessment of existing system configuration and operation at client sites.

  • Compilation and analysis of data

  • Conceptual design of energy related projects

  • Preliminary constructability assessment and project risk assessment

  • Prepare capital and operating cost budgets

  • Detailed energy savings calculations

  • Preparation of final reports and presentation

  • Ensure all deliverables are completed on time and comply with bid criteria

  • Investment Grade Audits

  • Lead, organise and conduct Investment Grade Audits at customer sites

  • Further definition of solutions including on-site assessments as necessary

  • Constructability assessment

  • Project risk assessment

  • Finalise solution selection

  • Prepare full equipment list with performance/sizing/selection for key energy equipment, all major pipework lines, pumps (including pressure capabilities), heat exchangers including definition of control philosophy

  • Prepare P & ID, layout and scheme drawings

  • Produce an outline work package for contractor to provide pricing and assess accordingly

  • Negotiate scope and pricing with sub-contractors

  • Develop savings calculations and pricing to +/- 10% for project capital approval

  • Liaise with the design, implementation and operations teams to incorporate all requirements within the submission

General Duties as follows:

  • Manage development budgets in line with pre-approved levels

  • Mentor and develop staff

  • To update the company work monitoring systems with accurate details

  • Assist in improving operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service

  • General office duties


Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum 2:1 engineering degree preferably in chemical, mechanical or electrical.

Achieved Chartered Engineer status.

Minimum of 10 years’ experience of energy efficiency work for an Energy Services Business.

Experience working on UK Public Sector Tender Frameworks e.g. ReFiT, Essentia, CEF, SNDEE.

Experience of development and training of graduate engineers.

Commercially aware with experience of negotiating with equipment suppliers and installation contractors.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and project scheduling tools.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, confident and have a flexible approach to work. They will be customer focused, passionate about energy efficiency and renewable energy. They should be able to demonstrate good organisational skills including the ability to multi-task, prioritise work under pressure and complete within deadlines. The job requires the willingness to travel across UK and Europe, while based in Central London.
