Job Title: Client MEP Project and Design Manager

Reports To: EMEA MEP Design Director (Mechanical bias)

Location: Canary Wharf, London

Job Summary:

Reporting to the EMEA MEP Director, the Client MEP Project and Design Manager will be responsible for making sure all aspects of Mechanical and Electrical designs are in accordance with the design guidelines and standards throughout all stages of the construction process starting from lease negotiations to Handover. Provide strategic and tactical design management support to the Design Management Team, for the engineering process of a project from conception to completion. This role will be embedded as an integral member of the Clients team, undertaking Project Briefing and Compliance roles as requested on all projects across EMEA. Although based in London, there will be a requirement to travel to specific project locations throughout EMEA for key project milestones during the design, construction and testing/commissioning and handover stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client MEP representative for their construction projects in EMEA Region. Liaise with MEP consultants, Contractors and architects to ensure the client MEP brief is achieved.

  • Advise on the proper implementation of the client design process through feasibility, scheme design, detailed design, construction, and handover phases of designated projects.

  • Working with the incumbent Operations teams to advise on operational failures and providing advice and reports with recommendations on a course of action.

  • Feasibility studies and early support to project managers, architects and space planners.

  • Working closely with project Quantity Surveys (QS) to develop MEP budgets.

  • Working closely with Project Managers to develop construction programmes.

  • Producing high-level MEP SoW’s for internal moves and changes (IMAC) and small projects.

  • Develop and maintain a suite of standard documents designed to assist the design management team in the professional delivery of designated client projects.

  • Requirement to travel to location of projects predominately in Europe but could extend to Middle East and Africa as well.

  • Advice and establishing project briefs, determining project goals and objectives associated with the building services installations.

  • Monitoring project designs and review to ensure Client standards are being adhered to.

  • Ensure that design management processes and supporting procedures are communicated to the Project Managers, and the professional members of the team from the outset of a project.

  • Review works on site to ensure that standards are being met, quality is delivered to an acceptable level and general advice to the Client during construction (Note: projects are across EMEA, but visiting role only)

  • Project completion reviews and sign off and acceptance on behalf of the Client.

  • Provide information as necessary for monthly management reports, to review by senior management.

  • Deliver full auditing capability across the design management process.

  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) may be required for certain plant or system installations.

  • Review commissioning data against design parameters and where necessary arrange for corrective action.

Key Requirements

Essential Experience

  • Mechanical bias Engineering Designer/manager with good all-around experience M, E & PH. Min 7 - 10 years’ experience.

  • Min 5 years design consultancy and/or design management within commercial buildings, preferably investment banking and/or Fitout

  • Much have design experience of (a) trading floors, (b) high end client dining and meeting room facilities, (c) Comms Room, (d) kitchen and restaurants, (e) auditoriums and (f) multi-media

  • Demonstrate knowledge of IoT (Smart) technologies. For example, IAQ, HVAC Analysis, intelligent lighting, occupancy/capacity monitoring, smart bathrooms

  • Good communication skills - will be working directly with the Client.

  • Hard working – planning of own workload and prioritise as and when required.

  • Good commercial understanding.

  • Happy to be based at the Clients offices and to travel when required.

Essential Skills

  • Excellent client relationship skills.

  • Intermediate to advanced level in Microsoft Office applications for report writing.

  • Good interpersonal skills, confident and experienced in dealing with people of all levels.

  • A team player that interacts effectively with colleagues and clients.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to their own initiative.

  • Proactive and positive attitude with a calm and methodical approach to work.

  • Ability to learn new tasks, systems and skills quickly.

Qualifications / Professional Memberships

  • Degree level qualification in appropriate subject matter.

  • Technical and / or project related qualifications an advantage.
