Engineering Services is at the heart of BT's service delivery - we plan, build and maintain BT’s 5'700 exchanges and 289 radio sites across the UK and we maintain 10 data centres and 25 EE sites.

You’ll be a technical specialist & delivery manager to assigned projects covering 21c network accommodation expansion. This will cover delivery management of the specification, design, procurement and construction phases and includes DNO capacity, AC / Standby Power systems, AC infrastructure, DC Power, Cooling, BMS and site construction.

You will be accountable for ensuring your allocated budget is spent and managed to meet business commitments, ensuring the cooling programme is kept on track. This will be in the order of £15 to £20m.

What you’ll be doing

  • Delivering major mechanical and electrical projects at BT’s core network, EE mobile sites and Data Centres. Delivering projects primarily at our 21c sites – enhancing BT’s space, power and cooling capacity

  • Completing site strategy and site designs, to help shape BT’s Core estate in line with forecast network growth

  • Compiling statement of requirements for major M&E projects

  • Review technical designs, evaluate designs against SOR requirements

  • Work with subject matter experts to ensure innovation and compliance is maintained in designs. Utilising new technologies where appropriate for design or cost improvements.

  • Providing delivery expertise over investment programmes ensuring that the all break down elements in the delivery phase are agreed, and are delivered on time and to the budget.

  • Perform technical due diligence over equipment suppliers and their associated sub-contractors to ensure compliance to BT infrastructure installation standards.

  • Ensuring that Legal and Regulatory compliance is maintained and that BT safe working practices are applied.

  • Hold regular commercial review meetings with the suppliers and internal BT stakeholders to facilitate progress, supplier performance and improvement opportunities.

  • Undertake site audits to maintain a good understand of current installation practices.

  • Produce regular reports detailing the progress and performance of the suppliers against agreed delivery and financial targets.

  • Leading contractor, third party supplier performance to ensure that unforeseen issues that could put projects into delay are resolved in the quickest most efficient manner possible, agreeing adjustments to keep projects on track.

  • Providing approval over equipment technical issues to resolve implementation problems.

  • Provide oversight of activities being undertaken by more junior or less experienced members of the team

Skills required

  • Specialist in mechanical and electrical, power & cooling specifically Standby generation and AC infrastructure and its implementation and operation in networks and datacentres

  • You will be a qualified to BS7671 18th

  • You will have a solid academic electrical or building services engineering background (BEng, HND, HNC), or the equivalent demonstrable work experience

  • You will have in depth working knowledge of The Electricity at Work Act, The Health and Safety at Work Act & Construction Design Management Regulations

  • Understanding knowled of Commercial Client / Principle Designer under Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015

  • A proven delivery track record of M&E infrastructure project delivery

  • An understanding of finance structures, reporting systems and governance

  • Comfortable in developing your expertise into emerging technology areas with minimal training.

  • An understanding of network monitoring systems and implementation practices.

  • Ability to deal with multiple competing suppliers.
