Amazon Finance Manager, EMEA Stores Accounting in London, United Kingdom

Description

We are seeking a Finance Manager to become a key member of the EMEA Accounting team, located in our London office. The role has responsibility for aspects of the controllership and accounting function in support of the EMEA operations. The accounting flows are operated in multiple legal entities with involvement of a number of stakeholders in different locations. This position will be focused on supporting the launches of some of Amazon’s newest global business initiatives and the automation of underlying processes. This leader will work closely with the global financial systems teams, accounting operations teams, tax and others and represent the accounting organization to various stakeholders in a portfolio of projects. The position will require partnering with operational accounting and business finance groups in developing strategic solutions to support our high growth rate through launch methodology design and training, creation of accounting tools used to support new launches and design inputs to longer-term platform development.

Candidates will work in a fast-paced environment, manage through ambiguity and complexity whilst supporting multiple, simultaneous project launches impacting the global accounting organization. This position is expected to have sufficient finance/accounting experience to help the new business launch team identify and incorporate necessary financial reporting, have a solid understanding of computing system interaction and can identify internal control elements into systems or tools to support new business activities. This role requires excellent communication and organization skills, including the ability to anticipate, identify and communicate risks to senior leadership.

Key job responsibilities

· Work independently to lead and provide Accounting project support to Amazon's business and development teams with the design of new products or offerings and set-up of financial systems to ensure appropriate business support and controllership.

· Deliver complex cross functional projects

· Identify and communicate project risks to senior leadership, along with clear recommendations for resolution or mitigation.

· Direct responsibility and ownership in executing large scale process improvement opportunities within new business launches and existing processes and controls, including defining scope, goals and deliverables in collaboration with senior leadership and stakeholders.

· Identify, develop and transition new processes to support month-end general ledger close activities, monthly account reconciliations and reviews, and preparation of various deliverables to support both internal and external financial reporting needs.

· Coordination with the global accounting teams to establish and maintain strong communication channels.

· Monitor quality of new automated accounting entries, financial reporting processes and controls to ensure highest standards are maintained.

Basic Qualifications

  • Extensive relevant experience in an accounting role

  • Knowledge of various GAAP accounting rules including US GAAP and IFRS.

  • CPA / ACCA / ACA / CIMA or equivalent certification

  • Working understanding of an internal control framework and a solid understanding of the concepts of control design and operational efficiency.

  • Experience participating in continuous improvement projects in your team to scale and improve controllership with measurable results

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience from a ‘Big 4’ accounting firm is a preferred.

  • Experience working for a US or International, medium to large fast-paced company.

  • Computer literate in general (MS office, Essbase, Cognos and similar). Knowledge of Oracle is a plus.

  • Proven track record of sound decision making, taking ownership and delivering results in a leadership role

  • Ability to dive deep into data, existing processes, people and technology challenges in order to identify issues and opportunities.
