POSITION SUMMARY
To lead and manage the 2D and 3D creative visual output for the brand cluster in all physical retail environments and to over see the Store Design Manager for holistic consumer experience.
This role is responsible for the creative design and technical execution of store design and visual merchandising requirements for the region. This includes reviewing original store concepts based on global brand guidelines as well as developing current layouts by way of direction and collaboration with the Store Design manager. Oversee the many stages of design from concept, detail development, technical execution, material finishes and quality control.
This includes (but not limited to) new stores, remodel, refresh, and relocation of all store environments (Stand alone stores, department stores, specialty multi channel and pop ups). All brand VM launches including (but not limited to) light box updates, locator updates, locally designed tester units, pricing updates and all 2D consumer facing communication.
This role will have direct responsibility of a store designer, VM manager or Assistant manager and a VM Graphic designer to ensure a fully holistic approach to the instore experience. There will be key stakeholder and interface between the regional and global brand. Particularly with global creative teams - Ensuring continued innovation across team, while in adherence to brand guidelines. Concepting and ideating designs to help drive overall brand strategy and storytelling on all VM executions across the brands distribution, managing the impact of changes in project scope and pro-actively devise contingency plans/options when applicable, identifying potential project risks and develops processes that align internal and external resources to satisfy those gaps.
Working directly with the creative ops lead for the cluster - the role will be responsible for jointly managing budgets and capital and operational expenditures in terms of both value and phasing. As part of the role you will actively work with UK Procurement to find creative cost savings in design of stores whilst maintaining high standards.
The role will act as a strategic partner to our brands ensuring creativity is to the highest standard. This role is a leadership position within the RDDC, reporting to the Store Design and VM Director. It requires positive team culture contributions, including mentoring, supporting, and motivating.
WHAT THIS ROLE DOES
General:
Manage the direct reports within your team, including but not limited to regular catchups appraisals, performance reviews and personal development plans
Ensure brand equity is maximized at all times, in conjunction with brand and retailer guidelines
Ensure consistent brand execution in the retail environment.
As a Senior VM Design Manager you will align with the regional RDDC strategy to ensure the wider team are continually developing our strategic pillars and working to the highest standards.
New Store Opening/Renovations:
Lead the store designer to ensure store designs are aligned to the global guidelines and the regional marketing strategy.
Work closely with sales/marketing to obtain SKU line up and ensure the store design suit required SKU linkups to maximise on trends and sales.
Review planogram/product layout for new store designs
Review New Store opening collateral orders (for the Creative Ops team to then order)
Work with team to create print assets for new store openings.
Where new assets are required work with the ELC Studios to develop new assets, which are in line with the brand guidelines.
Work with printer to ensure colour matching
VM dressing at point of launch
Implement new counter installations and refits including post installation follow up
VM:
Local adaption of guidelines, with inclusion of any local initiatives, designs and copy
Storytelling with guidance from marketing
Liaise with global on designs, guidelines and regional feedback of POS/display units.
Oversee the development of any local unit and POS.
Create concept drawings.
Review, approval detailed designs of testers.
Working with wider team, oversea the design of artwork required for display units, light boxes, windows.
Assist with forecast of Main Line, Ancillary and POS units.
Work with graphic designers to create store installation guides.
Responsible for regular store visits with a focus on Flagship and top doors
Ensure our stores reflect the VM strategy by adhering to the VM guidelines
Implement new counter installations and refits including post installation follow up
Enforce high Visual Merchandising standards at all times
Ensure clear messaging though out all categories
Be consumer focussed
Events & Education Guidelines:
Conceptualise in store events – work with store design where required.
Manage store approval process.
Review collateral orders
Review print assets for event. Work with printer
Qualifications
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BE SUCCESFUL IN THIS ROLE
MUST HAVE SKILLS:
Highly creative and good sense of design
Ability to come up with ideas and designs and bring them to life.
Qualification – Relevant 3D, 2D, Product, Industrial, graphic design, interior design
Understanding of print process for all in store 2D graphics
Understanding and ability to work with fonts, communication hierarchy and Graphic design principals
Portfolio focused on beauty and luxury demonstrating all design stages
Software – competent with InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Adobe Creative Suite. Sketch up and V- Ray
Ability to sign off construction drawings for VM production and artwork
Office 365 - Excel and Word capabilities required
Good freehand sketching to ideate across ideas to brands and suppliers
Holistic 2D and 3D experience and execution capabilities
Coordination skills and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Digital/virtual in-store experience delivery.
Focus on elevating self-navigation and in store consumer experience in all store environments
Business acumen and commercial mindset
Experience managing vendor relationships
Ability to Value Engineer where required
Materials, manufacturing, and installation execution knowledge
Experience in Boots /Sephora and other SMC/Pure Play.
Extensive Management skills
Wider team management and mentoring
Experience managing senior management
Good understanding of applications of new digital technologies (e.g. screens in store) to enhance in-store experience with guidance. Ability to propose new technologies that could be implemented in store
