The Engineering Director - Campus Engineering & WAN Services will lead a team of highly experienced experts who are
responsible for providing the network engineering for American Express Campus locations. This team sets the strategy
and delivery in both the campus wired and wireless spaces, in collaboration with global real estate & site services to
deliver an outstanding customer experience. This team performs proactive assessments and optimizations across a
global network infrastructure and supports the AXP Network Operations Center (NOC) in addressing highly complex or
critical issues that impact availability or performance.
This position has oversight of the configuration templates, security compliance and life cycle management for all Campus
locations. They will partner with all internal & external teams that are part of driving these highly critical activities.
This role is also responsible for managing a team of project managers and engineers focused on circuit & hardware
provisioning, and refresh activities of the Global WAN infrastructure to support the network lifecycle. The ideal candidate
will provide consultation and strategic thought leadership to internal and external teams, they will also oversee
management and operations for product services.
This team is uniquely positioned to interact with many other technology teams and requires their leader to be highly collaborative with strong communication and partnering skills. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an operational mindset as the team provides after hours support for project implementation, changes for network optimization or uplift and supporting the AXP NOC with critical issues.
The successful candidate should have extensive LAN and Wireless Engineering experience with several years of
experience in network WAN technologies, connectivity solutions delivery and carrier management. The candidate will be
expected to drive results through others.
Responsibilities
Drive a world-class customer service culture within the team
Provide oversight and guidance on all LAN and Wireless designs
Interact with vendors on new product offerings, lifecycle and problem resolutions
Provide oversight for circuit and hardware provisioning, decom, refresh, contractual and cost control processes
Balance economic and technical aspects of the network lifecycle to drive optimal purchasing behaviors
Assess and provide feedback on new circuit installs or complex decom activities
Work with supply management teams to negotiate all contracts for maintenance and resources
Provide timely support for multiple strategic initiatives across the organization
Qualifications
Significant experience in Data Networking
Solid understanding of network transport types and WAN supporting technologies
Proven relevant experience with the network lifecycle, cost control, circuit / hardware provisioning, decommission and contractual management activities
Strong technical knowledge of MPLS, internet as transport and SD-WAN technologies At least two years of demonstrated leadership over a team of project managers and engineers
Lead operational delivery to ensure that the network activities are performed in a timely manner, within standards, and in such a manner that the customer’s expectations are met while long term availability and costs are balanced
Requires dynamic team management skills, such as planning, budgetary control, and/ or people leadership
Strong background in automating delivery workflow
Experience with selection process and procurement of new network solutions is a plus
Ability to evaluate the products available in the market to meet the strategic direction, partnering with suppliers to test products and integrating them into the American Express environment
Experience in leading and resolving urgent technology issues
Professional written and verbal communication skills
Vendor negotiation and relationship management skills
Possesses the ability to understand impact of trends and regulatory environment and the ability to recognize network opportunities and develop solutions to exploit those opportunities
Strong commitment to personal excellence
Possess ability to lead and manage teams within an enterprise organization
Strong business acumen
Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other work related experience
