To enable this, an above-the-market Centre of Excellence has been established to perform key functional areas within PLAN, spanning over all Diageo’s markets in Africa, using a central pool of expertise that ensures standard and effective practices across countries.

Purpose of Role

The Demand Planning Manager in the Africa PLAN CoE is responsible for owning the development and delivery of accurate and timely baseline demand forecasts, and feeding these into the S&OP process accordingly, ultimately enabling the African markets to maximise their operating profit and customer service.

The role has accountability over the statistical modelling of the demand forecasts, as well as ensuring Data Management is maintained. The scope of the role also includes input into the demand plans for Innovation and Brand Change, for all African countries.

This role needs to ensure a balance on all aspects and trade-offs of supply, from managing inventory levels and minimising out of stocks, whilst delivering a responsive supply chain that fulfils Sales forecasts accurately.

Top Accountabilities

Generate base line statistical demand forecast for at least 18 months rolling:

  • Pro-actively works with the Demand Manager and the DP Business Partner, leading the generation of baseline statistical forecasting and highlighting deviations to the shipment and/or depletion trends.

  • Use and maintain the APO software as the primary forecasting system tool

  • Collaborate with DP Business Partner on all forecast history cleaning activities including documenting adjustments and assumptions (market trends, seasonality, promotions).

  • Maintain statistical parameters for “best fit” model & generate a baseline at least 18 month rolling.

  • Lead APO master data maintenance including CVC creation, disaggregation factors and attributes.

  • Analyse outliers through appropriate reports and make corrections.

  • Support scenario planning for promotions, innovation and major events (duty, economics change, etc.) through stat analysis.

  • Lead all reporting and insights to partners to maximise with relation to baseline forecast.

Provide key input to S&OP/IBP process

  • Participate where relevant in S&OP process to align upon consensus forecast.

  • Lead statistical input to Strategic Planning and AOP process and challenge projected growth based on historical trends.

  • Collaborate with Demand Business Partners to conduct root cause analysis to identify drivers of forecast error and work together to take the vital corrective action to drive continuous improvement in forecast accuracy and bias performance.

Innovation & Brand Change Coordination

  • Perform and coordinate the Innovation and Brand Change planning process in relation to Demand, Supply & Material Planning.

  • Actively educate collaborators on Supply Chain implications.

  • Ensure balance the need for product availability versus the need to minimise costs of primary and secondary inventory of I&BC projects, new/replaced products.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

Skills and Capabilities

  • Detailed understanding of end to end supply chain operational processes within Diageo e.g. IBP, S&OP, DRP, MPS, inventory, conversion, logistics and customer service.

  • High degree of quantitative and analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Partner engagement skills.

  • Good communication skills – verbal, written and presentation.

  • Customer centric mind set.

  • Proficient in MS applications e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook

  • Good knowledge of Sophisticated Planning and Analytics software: SAP APO, Oracle Demantra, SAS, Power BI, Tableau, etc.

Experience

  • Supply Chain planning experience in CPG (Demand Planning, Supply Planning, ).

  • Additionally, some wider cross functional experience preferable e.g. commercial, finance or supply.

  • Significant line management experience required.

  • Experience with sophisticated planning software with Demand Planning (SAP APO would be an advantage).

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in appropriate supply chain, mathematical, engineering, or business degree.

  • APICS CPIM / CSCP or equivalent desirable.
