Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented lawyer to fill the position of Corporate Counsel to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. AWS is at the forefront of the cloud computing and service industry, providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and more.

Key job responsibilities

This position will support the AWS Trust & Safety (T&S) team who is responsible for handling reports of misuse or abuse of AWS services and works with customers to resolve abuse issues and ensure continued compliance with AWS’s terms of service. The successful candidate will provide legal counsel to T&S and other business, legal, and cross-functional teams as well as senior executives on regulatory, compliance, and public policy matters impacting AWS, including assessing the applicability of new or pending legislation or regulation, preparing compliance/implementation plans, and advising on new, or updates to, internal guidelines, processes, and product/service designs or features. You will work closely with stakeholders across all of Amazon on trust and safety issues, participating in regular working groups and collaborating on cross-company initiatives. The candidate will be a fast learner who is detail-oriented and customer-obsessed, and will be able to work independently and comfortably while making decisions in ambiguous situations.

About the team

You will be joining a fast-paced, tightly-knit, and diverse legal team that delights in building, innovating and simplifying for its business partners and customers. You will report to a manager based in Seattle, USA, and as part of the team, you will participate in team-wide meetings, departmental goals, and collaborative projects. In this role, you will have regular access and visibility to legal and business leadership.

Basic Qualifications

  • A qualified lawyer with 5+ years of post-qualification legal experience

  • Experience in transactional and technology licensing or equivalent

  • Experience in technology and commercial businesses

  • Experience in legislative review and regulatory compliance

  • High degree of independence, initiative, decisiveness, and creative thinking as well as desire to dive deep and be challenged

  • Strong analytical, written, and oral communication

  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders and contributing successfully to cross-functional teams

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once while meeting deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with all levels of legal and business partners and advising senior executives

  • Familiar with cloud computing and enterprise software systems

  • Ability to demonstrate sound legal and business judgment
