Front Office – Supervision and Controls oversight

  • Provide support and training to Sales & Trading (S&T) for all Front Office Risk and Control requirements.

  • Develop and maintain (i) inventory of S&T Risk processes, and (ii) controls and reports; ensure Sales & Trading Desk Heads have visibility of key risks and controls within their business and risks, near real-time where possible.

  • Assist S&T to capture/document non-financial risk incidents and any associated issues and actions – help to ensure FO-owned issues/actions are resolved in a timely manner.

  • Support S&T in their assessment of risk and controls (RCSAs) across each FO Desk

  • Review and assess key hand-offs with support functions to assess whether the correct data/MI is being sent to and captured by the Front Office to aid risk management and control oversight.

  • Develop and maintain the MUSE Supervision/Controls Dashboard and associated reporting

  • Support MUSE S&T governance Fora by preparing Committee packs, Minutes, Actions.

  • Agree KRI thresholds between Business and Control/MI Owners and source relevant data for oversight.

  • Pro-actively enhance and promote positive conduct and risk culture to promote accountability and responsibility across all the S&T.

  • Work with S&T Management to design and implement new control initiatives within S&T where required

  • Continue evolving the control framework and devise and deliver solutions to sufficiently mitigate existing and emerging risks within S&T.

  • Review and challenge regulatory control MI and ensure that this achieves both risk and control oversight requirements for Sales & Trading Heads.

  • Help oversee the development and implementation of regulatory initiatives impacting Sales and Trading – participating in technical design, tracking, escalation and control requirements in S&T.

  • Develop strong working relationship with 1st Line teams (e.g. S&T, Business Management, Ops, TEC, IDM) and 2nd Line teams (e.g. Compliance, Financial Crime and Op Risk) to ensure ‘best in class’ support models for S&T.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Functional / Technical Competencies:

Essential

  • Ability to quickly understand the local nuances regarding systems and internal relationships between departments

  • Excellent knowledge of risk management and risk mitigation approaches

  • Pragmatic and practical approach to the implementation and application of 2nd line requirements

  • Good knowledge of operational risk or supervision practices

  • Good knowledge of Industry standards and Sales and Trading Business practices

  • Good knowledge of Global Markets products and trade flows

  • Previous experience of working in, or directly supporting, a Sales and Trading Business

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of data aggregation and MI creation from low level data; trend analysis

  • Compliance Advisory or Middle Office experience would be useful

  • Understanding of current regulatory requirements

  • Experience as part of a FO regulatory implementation project.

  • Front Office Supervision or Controls knowledge/experience useful

Education / Qualifications:

PERFORMANCE AND DUTIES

The role holder will be assessed in accordance with their employing entity’s performance framework and process with relevant input obtained from the dual hatting entity as relevant.

As duties and responsibilities change, the job description will be reviewed and emended in consultation with the role holder. The role holder will carry out other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role as requested by their line manager or Department Head.

MANAGING CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

  • The role holder will have responsibilities for both MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.

  • The role holder will be required to perform their duties and responsibilities on an entity neutral basis, without favour.

  • The role holder is required to follow regulatory requirements applicable to ensure each business is appropriately supported and to maintain the legal entity integrity of each of MUFG Bank and MUS.

  • Working terms are dictated by functional mandates, the terms of the Dual-Hat Arrangement Agreement in place between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc and any other relevant agreements entered into between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc.

  • The role holder will have responsibility for identifying and resolving where there may be a difference or conflict in needs between MUFG Bank and MUFG Securities EMEA plc, escalating to their manager where required.
