Job Description:

Geotechnical engineering company in Lombard, Illinois, is seeking a qualified individual for work as a field engineer or geologist. The ideal candidate would be a recent graduate with a civil engineering (geotechnical specialization a plus) or geology degree; a strong background in soil mechanics and soil and rock geotechnical properties or glacial geology, sedimentology, petrology, and structural geology; commitment to safety; desire and motivation for career growth; and enthusiasm for outside work and description and classification of sediments and sedimentary rocks and their engineering properties. Training will be provided. Immediate assignments will include logging of geotechnical boreholes and collection of sediment, rock, aggregate, and pavement samples.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.

  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

  • Carry out site visits, field observations and field data collection or assignments.

  • Assists in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan, and permit projects.

  • Conducts water, soil, rock, and other materials sampling.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or earth sciences

  • Zero to five years’ experience

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history
