Overview Dr. Zhongde Wang's laboratory in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Utah State University has an opening for a Research Technician position available to work as a team member with postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students and other research staff to conduct research focusing on stem cells and developing genetically engineered animal models. Funding available for 3 years but may be longer contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

  • Managing rodent colonies, including animal breeding, weaning litters, genotyping animals, post-surgical animal monitoring and care, and records management
  • Shipping animals to collaborators
  • Producing genetically engineered animal models, starting from designing genetic engineering strategies, sgRNA design and testing, piggyBac vector construction, pronuclear injection, embryo transfer, genotyping of produced animals, etc.
  • Assist postdocs and graduate students in their research
  • Training undergraduate students

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four years of experience; or an associate degree plus two years of experience; or a bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

  • Previous experience in developing genetic engineered animal models

  • Flexible working schedule including working in weekends and other off hours Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in working with Syrian hamsters, guinea pigs, Peromyscus, cotton rats, or naked mole rats

  • Experience in CRISPR/Cas gene editing techniques and/or transponson-mediated transgenesis
  • Experience in assisted reproduction techniques, including superovulation, IVF, setting up timed-pregnancies, pronuclear injection, intracytoplasmic injection, and embryo transfer.
  • Experience in DNA vector design and construction. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to plan and carry out complex laboratory procedures

  • Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to anticipate project needs and plan carefully to optimize resources necessary for successful project completion
  • Communication skills sufficient to permit clear and effective exchange of information with people representing a wide diversity of disciplines
