Amergis Teacher for the Visually Impaired in Lodi, California
The Teacher for the Visually Impaired provides students withappropriate learning experiences and activities designed to help them insocial, intellectual, and emotional growth. The Teacher for the Visually Impaired organizes and implements aninstructional program for visually impaired students.
Enables students to develop competencies and skills tofunction in a successful and positive manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops and implements lesson plans
Prepares lessons that accommodate learning styles
Prepares, implements, and evaluates an educational plan foreach student based on individually assessed needs
Instructs students with visual impairments (VI) in a varietyof assistive technology devices and software designed for blind/VI
Assists in the selection of instructional materials andequipment
Transcribes materials and lessons in braille for blindstudents or large print for VI students
Assesses student learning styles and use results to planeducational activities
Conducts assessments of student progress and achievementusing testing methodology
Compiles reports, records, and documents as required
Participates in IEP team meetings with parents, teachers,students, and other school district staff
Works in coordination with other teachers in planning anddeveloping the program
Completes progress reports on each student
Follows school district policies and procedures
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred
Valid state teaching certificate as required by stateregulations
One year experience as a teacher for the visually impairedpreferred
Complies with all relevant professional standards ofpractice
Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency programwhen applicable
Current CPR if applicable
TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
Current Health certificate (per contract or stateregulation)
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
Successful completion of new hire training as applicable tojob site
Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAArequirements
Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to andfrom appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors,co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in theEnglish language is required
Computer proficiency required
Must be at least 18 years of age
