Description
BASIC PURPOSE
The Front Desk Clerk is responsible to the Director of Shelter Services for the security of premises, as well as carrying out administrative/clerical duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist Shelter Director and Shelter Case Managers with overall Shelter Program functions.
Answer and forward all telephone calls.
Greet all visitors, staff, corps members, volunteers and general public in a friendly and professional manner.
Maintain confidentiality.
Direct all social service clients to appropriate staff person and facility, as well as donations to the ARC.
Maintains guest & staff log.
Maintain Client Confidentiality
Process clients for Emergency Shelter overnight stay and intake for guest showers.
Monitoring of Overnight clients, including seeking emergency medical attention, waking them up in the morning, supervising client room clean out & dismissing clients to meals.
Help maintain a positive a communal living environment between clients
Makes hourly rounds of building for security (fire, theft, etc.)
Monitors security cameras.
Washes overnight client laundry and linens from overnight stays.
Secure shelter for duration of evening (locks rear doors, turn out lights, etc.)
Transport program clients to various meetings, appointments, and other Corps events.
Organize and maintain neat and clean copier/fax room; maintain fully stocked paper supply.
Maintain neat and organized clothing closet.
Some custodial duties as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
Previous experience as a receptionist preferred.
Previous experience working with diverse population.
Must have ability to empathize, communicate and work with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds.
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have an open, welcoming and helpful presence and attitude with all people.
Ability to speak and write the English language with professional level skill.
Computer experience and working knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment is required.
Knowledge of Salvation Army practices, policies and organization resources.
Possess ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, and be capable of multi-tasking.
Must be punctual, organized, reliable, honest and responsible.
Ability to pass background check.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
Must be 21 years or older.
Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program
Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects
Ability to reach overhead
Ability to operate telephone
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for administrative positions
OR
Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs. for positions that require lifting
Ability to operate a computer
Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information
Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
