GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Surgical Inventory Specialist is responsible for ordering supplies, maintaining established inventory levels, and supporting the Livonia Medical Center (LMC), and Value Analysis Team efforts. This position is accountable for having necessary equipment and supplies available for all surgical procedures. The LMC Inventory Specialist demonstrates collaboration with other members of the Perioperative services team in order to accurately complete work within a timely manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Orders supplies and replenishes supply locations upon delivery, ensuring stock rotation Maintains par location labels and organization to facilitate counting Follows-up on back orders and supports identification of substitute products. Works with Trinity Health Procurement staff as needed to resolve any purchase order problems, credit issues or returns.

Routinely reviews par levels and works closely with Service Leads and other key individuals to make appropriate adjustments within Lawson par locations Routinely reviews inventory for slow moving items and participates in returns or opportunities to exchange with other departments or Ministry Organizations Routinely reviews items with shelf life to ensure first in first out principles Supports established processes for value analysis, product introduction, emergency purchases, returns.

Actively participates in inventory process improvements.

Manages consigned products and coordinates regularly scheduled audits with vendor to ensure compliance to Trinity Health policies and procedures around consignment.

Maintains tracking of expired/obsolete inventory items and submits list of donated products to World Medical Relief.

Demonstrates an understanding of the supplies related to the required job duties.

Assists in daily operations as requested.

Attends appropriate meetings as requested Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.

Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, associates, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMHS. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Experience: Previous stock handling experience preferred. Knowledge of hospital system desired.
