The Tax Manager will have ownership of all sales tax related matters including sales tax audits, sales tax compliance and reporting, ensuring the company complies with all applicable tax laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, exceptional analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner.
Duties:
Sales Tax Reporting
Prepare and review sales tax reports, reconciliations, and related financial documentation.
Generate and maintain records of sales tax transactions, exemptions, and credits.
Sales Tax Compliance
Maintain a comprehensive understanding of sales tax filing requirements in each relevant state.
Assist in various other tax assessments & filings in various states, including Income Tax/Franchise Tax/Annual Property Tax Assessments/etc.
Develop a systematic process for tracking and meeting filing deadlines.
Prepare, review, and submit sales tax returns in compliance with state-specific regulations.
Monitor changes in sales tax laws and regulations to maintain compliance.
Analyze and interpret complex sales tax laws to determine applicability to the organization.
Audits and Disputes
Prepare for and manage sales tax audits, including responding to auditor requests and negotiating settlements.
Represent the company during sales tax audits and disputes with the tax authorities.
Tax Strategy Development
Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize sales tax liability and minimize risk.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address potential tax issues.
Advise the company on sales tax implications related to business activities and expansions.
Other Business Filings
Undertake all business license filing and requirements: ex. Motor Vehicle Dealer Licenses, Lessor Licenses, annual business franchise tax filings.
Exemption Certificate Management
Manage and validate customer exemption certificates and ensure compliance.
Maintain organized and up-to-date records of exemption certificates for audit purposes.
Customer Support
Provide guidance to internal teams and external customers on sales tax matters.
Provide Sales Tax training for all branches on a regular basis.
Address and resolve sales tax inquiries and disputes in a timely and professional manner.
Process Improvement
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency in sales tax compliance.
Develop and document sales tax procedures and best practices.
Compliance Software
Utilize sales tax compliance software and tools to facilitate accurate reporting.
Stay current with emerging technology and automation solutions for sales tax manage.
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Experience
Minimum 3 years' accounting experience.
Experience with filing sales tax returns and sales tax audits is preferred.
Strong knowledge of state and local sales tax laws and regulations.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Proficient in using tax software and Microsoft Excel.
Ability to adapt to changes in tax laws and regulations.
High level of integrity and a commitment to maintaining the highest ethical standards.
A proactive approach to addressing and resolving tax-related issues.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A CPA certification is a plus.
Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:
This position is in an indoor office environment with a controlled climate.
This position requires sitting at a computer desk for long periods of time with constant use of a computer keyboard while reading the computer screen.
This position will continuously talk, hear, and read in verbal and written communication. And will occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
This position will continuously use hands to type.
