ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the development and evaluation of member cooperative construction work plans.

  • Work as lead in developing the AECC construction work plans which includes among other things system analysis, transformer loading, economic conductor analysis, cost estimates, project development, and planning criteria.

  • Attend MISO/SPP committee meetings to stay abreast of policy changes to both open access transmission tariffs and to maintain awareness of regional system developments that impact or are of interest to AECC and member cooperatives.

  • Work as lead in updating the transformer backup and closed loop studies when necessary.

  • Assist in developing the annual delivery point forecast.

  • Conduct and document system studies for load flow, short circuit, and any independent studies that are requested by any of the planning engineers.

  • Develop, coordinate, and review protective relay settings for assigned cooperatives.

  • Provide assistance to the other planning engineers in developing relay settings for their respective areas, when necessary, as decided by the director.

  • Develop familiarity with the various power supply and delivery contracts.

  • Establish, document, maintain, and ensure compliance for assigned NERC Reliability Standards.

  • Assist the planning analysts in maintaining and updating system data to ensure accurate modeling of the cooperative systems.

  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Basic knowledge of 3-phase power systems including transformers, transmission lines, capacitors, and generators.

  • Basic knowledge of system protection.

  • Knowledge of symmetrical components for protective relaying systems.

  • Familiarity of load flow and short circuit studies
