Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. As an Archives Technician, you will be performing non-professional, quasi-professional and technical work that supports access to archival holdings and physical and intellectual control over records at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum. Responsibilities As an ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will: Independently evaluate the physical condition of records. Determine and/or carry out the appropriate preservation and holding maintenance actions for all record formats. Provide written or oral "first-line" reference assistance and consultation, responding to all forms of inquiry concerning NARA's archival holdings, in original or surrogate format, by using complex finding aid systems and related archival sources, in both electronic and analog formats. Greet visitors, assist with registration and conduct orientation briefings for onsite researchers. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. A one year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. The work is mostly sedentary, however the incumbent must be physically able to perform the duties of this position. Physical demands may include climbing caster-equipped ladders, maneuvering on catwalks, moving heavy carts of records, and handling boxes of records stored up to 15 feet above the floor and typically weighing 50 pounds, occasionally more. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: Performing archival functions, such as; monitoring, pulling and refiling archival records, reference and research room work, arrangement and description, holdings maintenance and/or digitization of records AND Interpreting and applying regulations and policies to accomplish work assignments AND Communicating with and assisting various audiences in an archive, library, or museum Education Additional Information We may select from this announcement or any other source to fill one or more vacancies.
