Position Purpose
The Controls Engineer is responsible for developing and engineering controls solutions for projects, ensuring that TAIT's solutions are engineered to the highest levels of quality and safety. The Controls Engineering team is responsible for control systems on multiple projects spanning all project phases. A Controls Engineer's involvement in a project will generally begin with design, and continue with engineering activities throughout manufacturing, shop and site commissioning, and client handover.
Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Identifies architecture and key controls technologies to meet project needs.
Understands automated systems, and how the various disciplines interact (mechanical, controls, artistic, etc).
Writes technical documentation both to fulfill project requirements and for internal purposes.
Performs safety analysis to satisfy both internal standards and external client requirement.
Develops custom PLC projects, HMIs, and software configurations when required for projects.
Researches available products and solutions, and when necessary, builds and tests prototype.
Contributes to design reviews with productive feedback for peers.
Ensures smooth handover to fabrication and integration teams.
Promotes and contributes to internal standards and processes.
Commissions and formally tests installed systems to ensure correct performance and satisfy client requirements.
Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures.
Attend meetings, seminars, and training sessions as required.
Perform assigned duties according to the policies and expectations prescribed by the company.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technical Theater.
1+ years of experience in related field.
Creative problem-solver with proficiency in both theory and hands-on skills.
Experience with large, distributed control systems preferred.
Experience with closed-loop motion control preferred.
Understanding of functional safety standards preferred, including ISO12100, IEC 62061, and ISO 13849.
Familiarity with Beckhoff and Siemens control hardware and software preferred.
Knowledge of TAIT Navigator software, preferred.
This position may require frequent travel, approx. up to 20-40% of the time, to support project success. Employees in this role should be prepared for periodic travel to various locations (internationally) to work on service delivery and/or project execution.
Must hold or be able to acquire passport for international travel.

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, safety toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the location.
