Technical Development Engineer- Litchfield, MN

This is a full-time, exempt position.

JOB SUMMARY

The Technical Development Director collaborates with the plant leadership teams to analyze operations and identify improvement opportunities. This key team member leads scope of work development with supporting return on investment (ROI) accompanied by the implementation schedule of cost-effective solutions that streamlines people, products, and processes to achieve maximum efficiency in Litchfield. While fostering a culture of employee engagement and ownership.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Analyze operations & identify improvement opportunities with cost-effective solutions.

  2. Write reports and present findings to the Litchfield team and company executives in a current state format that clearly states the opportunity. Followed by the future state with scope of work and return on investment in a current state and future state format that everyone can easily follow.

  3. Work alongside team members to identify resources, develop implementation plans, and work around production schedules while establishing targets that define success.

  4. Provide technical support for and assist with the training of current and recruitment of new team members.

  5. Serves as a liaison with customers, Litchfield team and other key stakeholders.

  6. Immediately prioritizes and addresses issues that could negatively affect people, quality, and food safety.

  7. Identifies and documents product and process specifications to ensure consistency throughout the production process.

  8. Keeps up to date with advancements in the processing, spray drying, and packaging of ingredients and dairy flavors.

JOB DUTIES

  1. Streamlines processes so Litchfield operates at maximum efficiency.

  2. Addresses process performance issues and schedules meetings when required.

  3. Updates project, process, work schedules and adjusts targets as needed.

  4. Reviews accident and incident reports.

  5. Performs other related duties as assigned

  6. Create material and energy balances around processes as well as stoichiometric modeling of reactions

  7. Manage and interpret process data for use in the DMAIC method of improvement

  8. Develop and execute capex projects and spearhead/implement continuous improvement initiatives

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Extensive knowledge of the workflow associated with wet blending, spray drying and powder packaging processes.

  2. Keep up to date with current and industry trends through classes & webinars.

  3. Work collaboratively in a team environment across multiple facilities to successfully navigate the needs of the organization.

  4. Develop positive working relationships with customers, employees and technical resources.

  5. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.

  6. Advanced computer knowledge and skills.

QUALITY CONTROL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Appreciation for cleanliness and sanitation, keeping work area clean and organized.

  2. Knowledge of and ability to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

  3. Maintain excellent personal hygiene and wear appropriate apparel for the job.

NOTE : Required to report food safety problems or concerns immediately to a person with authority to initiate action as indicated on the organizational chart.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, mechanical, or electrical engineering, or project management field is required.

  • At least five years of new process and product development and improvement along with ability to structure as a capex project in a spraying drying facility is required.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Position is based in Litchfield, MN. With occasional travel to New Berlin and Colby WI to provide support as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.

  • Ability to travel throughout facility as required to monitor processes.
