The definitive technical authority for all aspects of engineering on all program elements (hardware/software/support/test) and leads a multi disciplined engineering team managing the technical performance of the program meeting cost and schedule requirements including subcontracted elements. Coordinates requirements development, hardware/software design, verification, and validation activities. Ensures that the program is adhering to sound engineering processes in the development, production, test and sustainment of products for our customers and is compliant with company policies, procedures, and quality standards. Maintains cognizance over technical activities within program IPTs and ensures horizontal integration of the best engineering practices across the company. Continually coordinates with the systems engineering and program integration team (PIT) leader to ensure the execution of program statement of work and baselines and serves as the technical point of contact with the customer. There is one Chief Engineer per program.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead and direct cross-discipline engineering team during platform integration activities

  • Interpret and lead team to execute work assigned by program leadership

  • Interface with functional leadership to secure team staffing

  • Work with suppliers and be able to articulate project requirements

  • Brief internal and customer leadership on progress of work assigned

  • Support proposal development and new program acquisition efforts

  • The selected candidate will perform in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings.

  • The ideal candidate is expected to be self-motivated, highly organized, and detail oriented and possess effective verbal and written communication skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or STEM-related discipline with 17 or more years of experience, or 15 years with a master’s degree and 9 years of experience with a Ph.D. An additional 4 years’ experience in lieu of a degree is acceptable.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills and be able effectively brief customers and employees, possess strong interpersonal skills

  • Domain Expertise in electronics packaging of payloads onto aircraft

  • Previous work with Aircraft and Test Flight Operations for Payloads

  • Experience with Structural Analysis

  • Prior Management and/or IPT Leadership Experience is required

  • Experience with Mission Systems Hardware Design Process

  • Experience in business capture engagement and proposals

  • Experience in sensor systems development, integration, and test

  • Experience in product leadership across multiple engineering areas such as but not limited to: Payload Deployment, Antenna Design, Signal Processing, Design for Manufacturability, Integration and Test

  • US Citizenship

  • MUST have an Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering or STEM-related discipline

  • Experience as SME, Technical lead, or other engineering leadership role in a program office that demonstrated team building, organizational, and interpersonal skills

  • Support on a product line development and technical roadmaps

  • Expertise understanding of the Design, Manufacturing, and Test process of a large program

  • Problem-solving experience in a large team environment

  • Previous role of advisor to executive level leadership on technical issues

  • Work experience and/or exposure to HW and Supply Chain ordering and tracking

  • Active TS/SCI

This position is contingent upon Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance, Special Program Access, Program Award and Customer Approval.

Salary Range: $174,800 - $262,200

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
