Cabinet Peaks Medical Center Direct Patient Observer, PRN in Libby, Montana

Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is seeking an Environmental Services (EVS) Outbuilding Lead to join our Environmental Services Department!

Under the supervision of a nurse, the Direct Patient Observer provides close observation of patients. This position assists in the provision of a safe and clean environment. This role promotes a therapeutic environment and aid in the efficiency of the nursing team. The Direct Patient Observer provides assistance with activities of daily living, unless the patient needs are such that adverse health consequences are predictable.

Major Job Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for providing direct observation of patients as directed by the nursing plan of care and under the supervision of the nursing staff.

Obtains verbal report from the patient's nurse to include information regarding the patient's identified care needs, diagnosis, visual, auditory, or language barriers, course of action for redirection of patient if needed, as well as any special considerations (NPO, bed alarms, etc.).

Positions self in patient room to maintain constant visual observation of the patient. Never leaves the patient alone or out of sight unless specifically instructed by the nurse.

May not transport patient for testing and procedures off the unit, but must accompany and remain within arm's length of patient unless otherwise directed by the person performing test or procedure.

Responsible for assisting nursing staff to create, maintain and provide a safe environment.

Provides for patient comfort, safety, and satisfaction.

Maintains patient environment in a safe and orderly manner.

Communication

Responsible to report changes in the condition of patient to the appropriate supervisor and other staff members.

Observant of the patient's activity and behavior and communicates on a regular basis to the nurse. Receives direction from the nurse re: what to report, to whom, and how.

Functions cooperatively as a team member. Responds as directed by the responsible nurse to changing patient's/unit's needs.

Communicates in a professional manner and demonstrates respect for patient, families/significant other and other health care members.

Offers support and feedback to peers and staff. Applies principles of caring and healing in interactions with patients, families and with colleagues.

Accurately and legibly records data collected and notifies RN of any untoward events, i.e., behavioral changes, violent behavior, etc.

Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his./her services, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of Cabinet Peaks Medical Center, and other local, state, and federal guidelines.

Complies with all hospital rules, regulations, and nursing standards

Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the Promise Standards

Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.

Responsible for having a broad understanding of the services provided by Cabinet Peaks Medical Center.

Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions, and OSHA standards for healthcare professional.

Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., face mask, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed.

Provides HIPAA compliant care.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

This position requires a person who exhibits a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, the ability to work productively under stress, a professional demeanor, is able to prioritize work loads and maintains the safety of the patient.

Recommended ability to understand medical/surgical terminology.

Preferred Current BLS/CPR certification.

Schedule

The schedule will be based on the needs of the department.

Education Requirements

High school education or equivalent required.

Experience

Must be 18 years of age or older.
