To quote myriad TNC staff members, "you'll join for our mission, and you'll stay for our people."WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERTNC's Kentucky Mitigation Program Manager, based in Lexington, Kentucky, builds, manages, and advances the Kentucky Business Unit's (KYBU) stream, wetland, and potentially other mitigation programs. The KYBU utilizes TNC's science and conservation planning to protect and restore high-quality, resilient habitats that support rare species, sensitive communities, and ecological integrity. The Kentucky Mitigation Program aims to use mitigation funding to support land and stream protection and restoration efforts within established TNC priority geographies, especially the designated Focal Areas in the Appalachians in eastern Kentucky. To date, the KYBU has completed two stream restoration projects and has two additional projects in the planning phase. The goal is to build this new program as a critical tool to advancing our conservation objectives and to serve as a leading example of how land trusts can successfully use mitigation to accomplish their conservation goals. The Kentucky Mitigation Program Manager provides technical leadership and support to the Kentucky business unit by planning, directing, and implementing mitigation projects and providing programmatic oversight and leadership on larger mitigation issues, including partner relationships, resource management, and policy.The Kentucky Mitigation Program Manager develops and manages all TNC mitigation projects in Kentucky and is responsible for managing all key mitigation partnerships, including working with the Army Corps of Engineers, the Interagency Review Team members, contractors, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, and the Kentucky Division of Water, collectively, the Agencies and contractors. The position may explore, evaluate, and recommend strategic approaches for mitigation program structure and growth, including exploration of a variety of mitigation mechanisms.This position requires sufficient knowledge and work experience to perform the following functions:Manage stream, wetland, and potentially other mitigation projects for the KYBU.Assess the potential and subsequently develop mitigation projects in the KYBU's focus areas on tracts identified as essential to advance TNC 2030 goals and the KYBU strategic goals.Act as the primary contact with Agency partners, Interagency Review Team members and In Lieu Fee programs in KY to develop mitigation projects.Develop and shepherd relationships with Agencies and contractors to develop and execute mitigation projects.Obtain internal approvals for KYBU mitigation projects in compliance with all TNC internal procedures.Communicate with other TNC staff in Kentucky to coordinate preparation of mitigation project budgets, and subsequently manage these budgets.Network extensively with TNC conservation staff, other mitigation project leaders within TNC, mitigation consultants and mitigation banks to insure the best possible mitigation outcomes occur in Kentucky.Serve as the lead strategist, with close coordination with protection and conservation staff, to identify highest impact workstreams for stream, wetland, and/or species mitigation for the KYBU.Ensure the revenues from mitigation efforts cover program costs and provide additional funding to advance TNC conservation objectives (with understanding that the timing of project development can make revenue streams uneven and cause delays in revenue receipt).WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOUHave you ever asked yourself, "How can I make a difference?" but you don't know where to go or have the time to do it? The Conservancy is a global conservation leader and one of the top fundraising charities in the United States.WHAT YOU'LL BRINGBA/BS degree in natural resources management, conservation, business, law, or another related field of study and at least 5 years' experience in developing, implementing and oversight of all aspects of mitigation projects.Experience managing multiple projects with several variables, setting realistic deadlines, managing progress, adapting to challenges, staying on budget, and delivering results.Experience working with a wide range of people and entities, including landowners, corporate leaders, contractors, and government officials.Experience negotiating complex agreements.Experience securing agency and regulatory approval for mitigation projects.Experience in developing and managing multiple projects with several variables and timelines.Experience working with computers, including programs such as Word, Excel, GIS, including database management.Experience in developing mitigation projects in Kentucky.Experience with federal, state, and local regulations, permits, and policies for mitigation.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONSMulti-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.Knowledge of current trends and strategies in conservation and land protection.Experience in complex budget planning and management.WHAT WE BRINGSince 1951, The Nature Conservancy has been doing work you can believe in protecting the lands and waters that all life depends on. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges.
